Travel as an apprentice

Hi everyone, I will be starting as a first year on a project next month for two years. My question is, what opportunities do apprentices have to travel? I’m very interested in traveling across the country doing shutdowns, do you typically have to be in a local that specializes in that or can apprentices travel from outside too?

Life changes in late 20s

Hi all, I’m currently living in a small mountain town in Colorado working construction. I have a girlfriend of 3 years who has a great job in our area and I essentially moved to this part of the state with her because of her job.

We both love the outdoors, when we first met I worked in the natural resource field and I switched when I wanted something more sustainable since I didn’t want to go to college more or work seasonally anymore.

Now, this is all context to show that I should be so happy where I’m at since we’re finally together in a cool part of the state (we were long distance for over a year). But, it just seems like something’s missing. I’m not super excited to see her, or spend time anywhere outside. We haven’t really made any friends here yet.

I’m from Southern California originally and thought when I moved out I’d never come back, but I have been missing my friends and family back there a lot and really enjoy visiting.

I have a good job opportunity/apprenticeship starting in August that seems like a really good upgrade, and the girlfriend has made it clear she’s staying here since she loves it. Both these things make it hard to leave CO right now.

My question is, how long do I wait and be patient for? Most mornings I feel terrible at work and all I can think about is moving back to CA, then by the second half I feel content and when I get home it’s a toss up, I can’t tell if I’m forcing myself to be happy or what.

We’ve lived here since March so it’s only been a few months but I feel like it’s only gonna get harder to move. She wants to get married soon too, and I’m not in any position financially or mentally to commit.

Thank you all for advice.

Am I being strung along?

Hi Everyone,

So I ended up applying and getting an apprenticeship. There is a two year project I was supposed to be starting on end of May/ early June. I have been checking in every week with dispatch to get a start date, and every week the answer is the same. They say that they haven’t gotten a start date from the contractor.

Is this normal to be a week out and not have a start date set in stone? They said they don’t think it’ll be pushed back though. I have my notice at my current job a week ago, with the beginning of June in mind.

Has anyone else had this happen to them? I just see if I’m being strung along, I haven’t signed any official paperwork.
