I'd take toxic Aegond over the forced Oedipus storyline any day.

Saw this tweet and honestly... I agree.

If the writers were determined to give Aemond some deeply unhealthy fixation, I'd much rather it had been directed at Aegon than Alicent.

Show Aegon was Aemond's first bully. He humiliated him, dragged him to a brothel, and was the first person to expose him to sex in a way that felt coercive and shame-inducing. That's a foundation for an incredibly unhealthy obsession.

Even in Season 2, Aemond visiting the burned, bedridden Aegon, kissing his forehead while pressing on his wounds... that scene already reads as disturbingly intimate and psychologically loaded.

That's more interesting than trying to convince us Aemond secretly wants to fuck his mother.

Book Aemond and Aegon had a loyal brotherhood. The show abandoned that. So if they insisted on making their relationship toxic, I'd rather they committed to exploring that complicated sibling dynamic instead of the forced Oedipal angle that mostly exists for shock value.
