The reason HOTD fails while AKOTSK was universally loved is simple

A knight of the Seven kingdom works because its not trying to be anything other than what it is. A knight of the seven kingdoms.

House of the dragon continues to fail because all it ever tries to be is a game of thrones ripoff done by performative writers

You know it’s one thing to keep Helaena away from her daughter. But it’s another to look at this little girl, whose twin brother was murdered by your husband, she witnessed it, heard it, and go “you can see your mother for an hour twice a week”. FUCK YOU Rhaenyra

Why do you support Aegon II Targaryen

Mine: Stannis the Man of Law & Duty said so. When King Stannis states something it is a law, it is a judgement.

HOTD will never be able to double cross the fact that George RR Martin made Stannis the Mannis to acknowledge Aegon II as the king and Rhaenyra as the traitor.

You got locked in your room, to change into a different color and put a ribbon around your braid

This is what kept her from going...THIS... giving Jace the perfect opportunity to lock her in.

If her "dress" before getting ready was more feminine then sure

And as a woman this is just an insult that C&H think someone tells a woman (a Queen) there is a war going on, and they're gonna waste time on this...

Adding the (excessive) crying just makes it worse

Rhaenyra is gonna order baby Maelor to be brought to her

Thats what’s gonna cause Helaena and Maelor to kill themselves. Rhaenyra will wanna see if it’s Aegons son and Helaena is going to be terrified of having her baby torn from her or hurt or killed and thats when Helaena jumps with Maelor. That way;

  1. It’s Rhaenyra’s fault KINDA but not really, there’s plausible deniability they can say ‘the maesters we’re misogynistic and stretched the truth when they blamed Rhaenyra’

  2. It’ll play into their favorite trope of ‘hey look at Alicent’s karma’ (bc the queen who never physically harmed you once yet demanding the princess and heir and favorite daughter bring you their son is the same as demanding a hostage bring your baby up to a woman who actively wants to kill your brothers/husband and killed your grandfather)

I feel bad for Criston.

The guy faithfully served both of them, but one put him at risk of being castrated/killed/sent to the Wall just because she was horny, while the other signed his death warrant and had the nerve to hide behind "fear" for him (and Gwayne) by forging a letter because she desperately wants to save her own ass from the consequences of her actions (but since he's one of those who "took her way" by not letting her play regent, I guess it's fine).

I don't share the opinion that he was truly in love with either of them, but if he was, that makes the situation even sadder.

"She saved my life" - dude, in that exact same episode, she revealed your location when nobody asked her.

p.s. wonder, if he'll ever learn about Alicent betraying her sons and team, or if he's more likely to die completely clueless like Otto?

Rickard Thorne in the show

Rickard Thorne as a character in the show is another butterfly effect that GRRM referred to. In the book, >!Ser Rickard died protecting the young prince Maelor in Bitterbridge as a true loyal knight!<. However in the show, he laughed at Rhaenyra when she unsheathed her sword, "that's something that we haven't seen before." The writers deprive characters on the green side from their merits, and add misogynistic characters on them. It feels contrived, unrealistic, and shallow.

I know the writes are trying to convey the ideas of how women are being oppressed in a patriarchal society like Westeros, which I totally support. But this is not convincing. This comes across as trolling.

Rickard Thorne is one of my favorite characters during the dance of dragons from the books despite the short descriptions about him. The reason I am Team green in the show is honestly reverse psychology. The more they are trying to depict the blacks in a positive light, the more I am leaning to the other side.

English is not my first language. So please understand my phrasing might not be very natural. Thanks!

Is Rhaenyra hypocrite on purpose or it's bad writing?

When Rhaenyra serves rats to the nobles because the common folk are supposedly starving while the nobles live in luxury, is that hypocrisy, since she herself is no different from them? Or is the show trying to portray how evil the rich are and suggest that Rhaenyra genuinely cares about the common people?

There is also the blockade, which was carried out under Rhaenyra’s orders and caused the city to starve.
