Paint order for blending new drywall panels with existing wall/ceiling

planning to prime entire wall and ceiling edge that has drywall mud , then blend/feather the ceiling edge into existing flat white ceiling paint.

afterwards should I paint the ceiling strip blending it into the existing ceiling, and then move on to the wall?

Is there a more logical way to do this? rest of the flat white ceiling paint is in good shape so I am not planning to repaint entire ceiling.

Ideas for sanding before paint job

I will be painting fresh drywall in a high visibility area that has a slight dip in the center.

also repainting a wall that was poorly patched.

what tools should I use for best result? I only have a sanding block and drywall patch compound so far.

Feedback on basement Reno on what to diy vs hire out - paint

looking for a reality check on part of a Reno project, if it is worth doing paint diy due to high cost of contracting out.

thinking I will paint 2 bedrooms from drywall (paid for a dry waller to do it right), plus touching up some ceilings that is smudged with wall paint. I have exact match paint ready.

contractor will be installing the doors and trim.

later needing to paint the new interior doors and trim plus replacing an exterior door.

is it reasonable to find a painter only for the trim and doors, and paint the walls myself?

Caulk new lvp to tile metal transition?

have an embedded metal transition in bathroom tile, and am installing floating lvp in the next room.

lvp does not fit under metal transition, and I‘m worried about chipping up the transition and regrouting.

best ideas for now are flexible caulk for lvp - transition gap, or shaving down the back of the vinyl plank so it fits under the transition.

any better ideas would be appreciated!

Advice for new floating lvp too thick for bathroom transition

looking for ideas to transition new floating lvp with the bathroom tile.

bathroom tile and metal transition are staying.

new floating lvp plank is too thick to slide under transition.

should I just butt the lvp against the transition, or maybe caulk the gap?

worried about cutting metal making a gap under the grouted in metal transition and damaging it or the tile.

Feedback to make few spots on concrete slab floor rough for self leveller - angle grinder

need to make smooth concrete basement rough.

self levelling cement instructions says I need to have a rough concrete surface for adhesion.

would an angle grinder with diamond carbide masonry wheel do the job?

just a few small areas that need leveller applied

Took up too much vinyl, cut evenly and add some back at transition?

Took up too much of the floating vinyl at the transition between rooms.

I will be installing a floating lvp over the concrete and then a transition between rooms.

thinking of heating up and then do a straight cut on the old vinyl with utility knife, and adding back some of the scrap flooring I just pulled up.

the old stuff is quite brittle but hard to cut.

any advice?

Mold under vinyl tile glued to concrete slab ideas for safe removal?

I am about to replace the floor and found this under some tiles that were curling up on the edges. This is vinyl tile glued to concrete slab, so I suspect moisture has come up from beneath, as there are no other signs of mold on this ground floor of house, and no recent flooding. This is in Pacific Northwest.

Does this look like mold and would spraying concrobium then scraping up the moldy adhesive be sufficient?

2nd photo shows tiles that appear fine with clear adhesive.

LVP direction + starting point - see floorplan

Hey all—planning LVP install in bedroom, rec room, and front entry/mudroom area and would love input based on my floorplan. Red is rough plank direction I'm thinking of.

  • Direction: Longest run & natural light, or flow in/out of exterior doors?
  • Start point: Main rec room, exterior wall, or bedroom
  • Ideally thinking of no transitions, the longest run is only 20ft.

Goal is a clean, continuous look with minimal awkward cuts.

What would you do?

Thanks

Advice on leveling sloped concrete slab near floor drain for vinyl plank install

Hey all, looking for some drainage advice before I move ahead with a flooring project.

I’m planning to install vinyl plank over a main floor concrete slab, but part of the floor (outlined in red in my photo) slopes down about 2 inches toward a floor drain in the adjacent utility room.

A few details:

  • The slope leads into a utility room with a hot water tank, and I’m not planning to change the slope or block the drain in that room.
  • In the rec room, the main water shutoff valve is about 12 feet away from the sloped drain area, which I plan to block.
  • There used to be a woodstove in the rec room heating water pipes, but that’s been removed.

My main question:
Do I need to maintain direct floor drain access in the rec room with the shutoff, or is it okay to level out that sloped area for flooring since the actual drain remains functional in the utility room?

Anyone dealt with a similar situation or have input on best practices here?

Ideas to Level concrete slab that slopes to drain on other side of wall

Looking for feedback on plan to level the concrete slab with self leveller for laying lvp over it in this room.

While there is a water supply line shutoff in this room, I don’t think the drain slope is needed here as there used to be a wood stove and pipes for circulating heat beside it.

floor is 1 5/8 inch lower where it slopes down into a drain on other side of wall where there is a utility room with water heater.

I plan to preserve the drain and the slope in water heater room (2nd photo), so that self leveller does not deep under the wall from other room.

Advice on old vinyl removal from concrete slab main floor

looking for advice on safe removal of 12 x 36 vinyl tile, and cleaning/floor prep of the concrete slab that looks like it has possibly mold residue on it due to no Vapor barrier.

Advice on concrete slab prep for floating lvp

concrete slab floor, there is a 1/2 to 3/4 inch gap between main slab and outer edge along the wall. the outer edge is much rougher and 1/2 inch lower than main slab.

for laying lvp over it that is 1/8 over 6 feet tolerance - seal the gap and then self leveller?

Advice for repair before major issue - 3 year old deck - thumb sized Vinyl bubble and feels soft under that spot

looking for advice on repair options. deck has a small thumb-sized bubble in the vinyl, and there seems to be a void in the wood structure beneath.

vinyl itself appears intact, can this be patched from underneath without redoing the surface? diy or call a pro?

Advice on levelling and sealing main floor concrete slab prior to lvp

advise on floor prep for this area - planning to install lvp in this room where there used to be a fireplace on the concrete.

concrete sealant on the middle crack before leveller?

concrete sealant on the larger gap between concrete slab and foundation blocks along outer wall?

Advice needed for replacement floor type - ground floor slab on grade

looking to put new flooring in this main floor entry/ mudroom/hallway area, but there are some weird/complicated leftovers from past owners. House built in the 1980’s.

one section is bare concrete where an old fireplace was removed in a past reno.

vinyl roll is ugly but well anchored, glued directly to the slab (cold floor in winter)

not pictured, but there is also section that is sloped towards a floor drain in an adjacent laundry room

third picture - there is a transition to a newer bathroom tile that I don’t want to damage.

What is the most diy friendly approach to put a new floor in here, and what flooring is recommended on a budget?

Planning to replace worn vinyl roll that is on ground floor concrete slab.

I have purchased floating vinyl plank, should I do any prep ie Vapor barrier or levelling before installing it? rip out the roll vinyl or just install on top?

looking for ideas to improve lighting in small main entry/mud room area that is around 80 square feet with 8 foot ceilings. very dim even on a sunny day

front entry is north facing and has 1 overhead light fixture which doesnt do much, especially for the adjacent main closet.

ideas:

replace current overhead light with a brighter fixture

add another overhead fixture, and maybe one in the closet as well (wireless led rechargeable?)

add a wall sconce
