I’ve been trying to find more yard sales, garage sales and neighborhood sales around Hattiesburg, but I feel like I’m missing wherever people actually post them.
I check Facebook and Marketplace pretty regularly, and I’ll see one here and there, but nowhere near as many as I’d expect for the area.

Where do y’all usually find them? Are there specific Facebook groups, websites, apps, neighborhoods or even local papers/pages I should be checking? I’m especially interested in the bigger neighborhood/community sales, but I’ll take any tips!

Would love to know where the Hattiesburg yard sale people are hiding 😂

I’m at my wits’ end with my master bathroom water closet and hoping someone has seen something similar.

House is in South Mississippi and was built in 1984. The water closet contains a toilet and shower stall and has very tall ceilings (around 13-14 feet).

When we bought the house last October, we remodeled the shower and replaced the original bathroom exhaust fan. The old fan was likely original to the house and included a heater function that isn’t needed here. I replaced it with a larger, higher-CFM fan that is rated for a much larger bathroom. We also added an LED light over the shower.

The room still has the original 1980s wallpaper that was painted over by a previous owner.

This summer, after weeks of rain, heat and humidity, we started noticing mold developing near the crown moulding. We cleaned the mold and I started investigating.

In the attic, I found that the fan exhaust area was completely buried in insulation. The fan had previously been dripping, so I thought I found the problem. I cleared the insulation, installed a duct and expected the issue to be solved.

It wasn’t.

The mold and condensation continued.

I then noticed that on hot afternoons the room would develop condensation on the transom window and the wallpaper would begin bubbling. What’s strange is that this can happen even when nobody has showered.

I went back into the attic, removed the duct (there was never a duct on the original fan and there is currently no roof or soffit termination available), then later added insulation back around and over the fan housing.

Still no improvement.

Yesterday I ran an experiment. Around 1 PM the room was already showing signs of humidity buildup, condensation on the transom and wallpaper bubbling. I placed a standing fan in the room on high and turned on the exhaust fan.

When I checked again around 4 PM, everything was completely dry. No condensation. No bubbling wallpaper. No visible humidity.

The rest of the master bathroom is perfectly fine. The issue is isolated to the water closet.

The only thing that has made a noticeable difference so far is increasing air movement. A standing fan plus the exhaust fan completely eliminated the condensation and wallpaper bubbling within a few hours.

For those who have dealt with similar issues in older Southern homes, what ultimately fixed it?? I might lose my mind this summer over this!

I’m trying to make sure I understand this correctly before I make a decision.

I’m currently on PAYE with Nelnet. My IDR recertification date is June 2026. I have about $26k left in federal Direct Loans and my current payment is around $217/month.

My household AGI is around $120k and I’m married filing jointly, so I no longer qualify for PAYE based on partial financial hardship. I already tried recertifying once and was denied. I am eligible for other plans, but when I called Nelnet, the rep told me that if I don’t recertify, I would essentially move to the PAYE “standard” payment amount.

She said my payments would remain about the same, I would not have to recertify next year, the payments would still count toward forgiveness and this would remain in effect until PAYE is terminated in July 2028.

My goal is to stay at this payment amount for the next two years if possible. At about $217/month, I’d pay roughly $5,208 in required payments over 24 months, plus another $2,400 in extra principal payments toward my highest-interest loan.

Is that accurate? I understand I may not qualify for a newly calculated PAYE payment anymore, but this seems almost too good to be true. Keeping the required payment lower would help me keep putting extra money toward principal.
