House Rules: Land Insurance

House Rules: Land Insurance

We have all been there: mana flooded or turn after turn without drawing one land. There are some fancy schmancy shuffling tactics out there but no matter the shuffle or the build, there is always that one player who loses because they just cannot play the game. In general, I am against house rules but I was wondering if there were solutions our community has found that offers a handicap to players who miss land drops? I am looking for a solution that does not completely alter the physics of the game and lands have to be included in the deck build.

Mercadian Atlas is the closest card I have been able to find in my travels that offers something close to what I am looking for. I am imagining that games can start off with one of the field (cannot be targeted or destroyed); if it causes a player to have over 7 cards, the cards discarded at the end step are removed for the game. I am trying to prevent to prevent abusing add cards to the graveyard for gain. I feel the card solves flooding issues as well when a person chooses (honorably) to skip playing a land in order to draw an extra card and break the land clumping. Not perfect but this is why I am posting.

Thoughts on helping to prevent land flooding/drawing issues?

4cc White Creatures

I was inspired by Champ's recent post to discuss 4cc white creature cards. These battlefield veterans have actually seen success in my cube as they act as an unblockable + 1 in many situations.

I find they are are often overlooked. Thoughts???

The Golem Attendants from Invasion

Interested in your thoughts on the Golem Attendants from Invasion. I really wish they were 4cc but they do some color fixing and can offer ramp.

Do you use them or leave them in the scrapyard?

Maybeboard Thoughts - Find a SLOT or Let them DROP?!?!

I have a few cards that have been sitting in my maybeboard for a while and I wanted to get your thoughts on if they are worth the slot or do I let them drop!

900 card cube and I still don't have enough space! Maybe we can make this a daily thing, help people clean out their mayboards!

I am wondering if the community has had any success playing this card in their cubes? I run my share of clone effects but this one feels different. Mirroring enemy creature threats that hit the board indefinitely or setting up for when you need two of something? I know someone could throw a wrench in the plans by throwing a useless creature but if timed right this thing can be a defensive and offensive play...

Thanks for sharing!

Took me a few years to reach my goal. But yesterday I just finished my long time project of collecting every 7th card foiled out.

Let’s praise the era of high end fantasy magic, as it will likely never return again.
