Student teaching

I’m knocking out courses in Sophia currently so I’m not enrolled or able to talk to a mentor.

How do student teaching placements work? I live in a district with about 30 elementary schools. 15 of them are schools we have basically inherited from a city that is well known for how rough it is between violence and poverty, to not give away too much about location. 9 are title I.

I’m not trying to come off weird, there are other schools on the other side of the county in rough areas that I wouldn’t mind being placed at all, but the schools from the city are my worst nightmare.

That being said, do I get ANY say or anything when it comes to placement, or will they just throw me wherever they can get me in? I’ve seen that students can’t reach out to schools themselves, but can we request schools through our mentor? I’m trying to figure this out before I fully commit.

Prepping for Gen Ed courses

I’m transferring to WGU with only 2 writing courses under my belt. Can’t start until July, but I’ll need to do basically my entire degree.

I don’t fully understand how courses work here or if every gen ed course is the same (eg. science requirement being the same course no matter what the major is).

I want to get through my gen ed credits pretty quickly, so I plan on using other posts and Quizlets to study in my free time before I start to get basic info down.

Does this seem reasonable to get ahead, or a waste of time due to how programs are set up? I know I won’t be able to cover every bit of content for each course, but I’m hoping it will help me shorten the actual time spent learning when I start. Would love any insight!

My first time subbing will be an afternoon half day with 3rd grade, on a Friday of all days.

I vividly remember the excitement and chaos of coming back to the classroom to a sub instead of the teacher, or having the teacher leave midday.

I’m not sure if there is a different sub for the first half, and no sub notes were included on the job posting.

Advice on going about classroom management when I show up in the middle of the day? Thought a half day would be best for my first experience but I’m really overthinking it now with less than 24 hours until I get there!

Also, how early is too early to show up? I’d like a chance to get a feel for things and get to where I’m going, and 10-15 mins doesn’t seem like enough, but maybe it is! I don’t want to be too early and be a burden to office staff.

IOS app and website for SFE won’t load jobs past today. Even if I change the filters, it will say “showing jobs from 5/4-5/4” and only show jobs for 5/1. Getting incredibly frustrating because I can only pick up certain days/times due to an inconsistent schedule at my other job, so I don’t have much flexibility to grab last minute ones the morning of. Is this just on my end? Anyone know how to fix this?
