I was changing the headlights on my RAV4 when my Dad came out to help. He used some sort of cleaner on the headlights, to thinly remove the old yellowish plastic. It worked great and made them a lot more visible, then he goes ”Yeah it even works on paint! Next time you wash your car you can do the whole body”! He then did this small section and it did look ’better’ in the moment so I didn’t see the real damage until later when the stuff dried.

Now I have this square of grey paint, I assume there’s no clear coat? Would I be safe to just spray a few layers on it until it returns to how the rest of the body looks? I don’t want to ask my Dad cause he did my mom’s paintjob once and it came out bad. I’d probably have my mom pay for the clearcoat since she usually is more understanding
