6 weeks on reta

Hi everyone today marks 1.5 months on Reta.

I started at .5 dose for 4 weeks now at 1 for 2 weeks. I started at 147lbs. I am 5’0 and I have not weighed myself I told myself I’d only go based on progress pictures and weighing myself every 2 months to avoid any number obsession.

My diet consists of drinking lots of water, eating tilapia, rice & veggies or salads w chicken and protein bars/ shakes.

I have not noticed any side effects which I was worried about. Then food noise is gone and has help me manage my constant snacking and drinking!

I have tried EVERYTHING for as long as I can remember and things got worse for my body image once I started graduate school and had my stress increase. I pulled the trigger and decided to try Reta bc I was on this page and saw how motivating everyone was. I’m excited to see where I’m at at another 1.5 months

Grad MFT student facing dismissal

Hi everyone, I’m an MFT graduate student and I’m looking for advice from anyone who has experience with graduate programs, clinical training, remediation, appeals, or practicum issues.

I am currently in a very stressful situation where I am at risk of being dismissed from my program after being removed from my practicum placement. I have a meeting coming up with my Program Director and a faculty member to discuss my situation, and I’m trying to understand what my options are and how I should approach this.

I want to start by saying that I am not claiming I did everything perfectly. I have taken accountability for mistakes I made, especially around communication and organization. However, I feel that some of the concerns being used against me do not fully reflect the context of what happened.

The main concerns involve professionalism and communication.

One issue was an audit correction that I turned in late. I fully acknowledge this. The deadline was missed, and I understand why that raised concerns. I accepted the feedback, met with leadership about improving my organization, and participated in a remediation plan afterward.

The second PIP involved multiple situations that I feel were more complicated:

Client support letter situation

A client requested a letter related to reducing work hours due to mental health concerns. I brought the question to group supervision and was advised to consult my primary supervisor. I then consulted my primary supervisor, who reviewed the situation, approved moving forward, drafted an example letter by hand, and instructed me to type it and return for review/signature.

Later, I was placed on a PIP stating that I had ignored a directive not to write the letter and failed to communicate that directive to my primary supervisor. My understanding was different I believed I was following the direction of my primary supervisor after seeking consultation. I have documentation of the handwritten draft my supervisor provided.

Group supervision attendance/communication

I was accused of not communicating about missing group supervision. My understanding was that there was confusion about whether supervision was occurring on Zoom and whether I was expected to attend. I had previously communicated about being absent due to illness.

I later learned that my group supervisor had intended to follow up with me about my availability but I never received that communication. There was also an email that I was accused of not responding to, but later someone discovered that the email had been sent incorrectly and I was never actually the recipient.

I was told I was not meeting the required clinic availability hours. However, I have documentation showing my availability reflected more than 20 hours, and I believe the schedule they reviewed may not have reflected my updated availability.

My biggest concern is that the program is viewing these situations as a pattern of dishonesty or unwillingness to follow supervision, when my perspective is that there were communication breakdowns, unclear expectations, and situations where I was actively seeking guidance.

I am trying to approach this professionally. I have acknowledged where I made mistakes and I am willing to accept additional structure, remediation, supervision, or accountability measures. I am asking for another opportunity to demonstrate growth because I am only months away from completing my program.

I feel like my entire world is on fire & falling apart. I met w the program and they basically went into it having me take accountability for everything which I did. And stating that they have tried to work w me in the past through remidation plans when they have asked me to work on communication and I feel like when I did it turned into a big situation. They told me that if I was at a job I would’ve been fired and I had also provided letters of support from my supervisors and they said “idk how that’s going to help” they also told me they haven’t made a decision yet as a program but that if they dismiss me I can appeal…..I’m just looking for hope. I take accountability for making all the mistakes I did. But I feel completely defeated. I am 4 months away from graduation

Dismissed from practicum. How over is my career? Pls help

Hi everyone, I’m an MFT trainee and I’m looking for outside perspective from people familiar with clinical training programs or any similar expiernce

I am very close to finishing my MFT program…literal months away. I have completed my required direct client-contact hours for graduation and even have exceeded my required hours and only have one course left to retake in the fall before graduation. Recently, I was dismissed from my university’s community counseling clinic, which resulted in being suspended from practicum course and now my overall program status is under review.

I want to be clear that I am not saying I did everything perfectly. I have taken accountability for areas where I fell short, including:

* Submitting some clinic paperwork late and not communicating proactively enough about the delay.

* Recognizing that communication is an area I have needed to improve.

However, I am struggling with some of the other concerns that were used to support my removal because I feel some of the events were based on misunderstandings or incomplete information.

Some examples:

  1. Client situation

A client requested a letter related to reducing employment hours due to mental health concerns. I first consulted my group supervisor, who told me the clinic generally provides attendance letters and advised me to consult my primary supervisor group supervisor is also the assistant dirrector of clinic btw. I then spoke with my individual supervisor (the supervisor whose license I was practicing under). She approved moving forward, helped draft the letter (wrote it by hand and told me to type it up i still have this, and instructed me to type it and return for review/signature.

The clinic later stated I acted against a directive and showed poor professional judgment. My concern is that I believed I was following the supervision structure we are taught as trainees: consult your primary supervisor because they are responsible for clinical oversight.

  1. Supervision/email issue

I was accused of failing to follow an email instruction regarding group supervision. I stated that I never received the email. Later after removing me from my sight, the clinic director informed me that when copying the email and making a copy of documents i asked for after being removed, she noticed it appeared the email was sent back to the sender rather than to me. She confirmed I was being honest that I did not receive it.

  1. Request to ‘withdraw’ from group supervision

I emailed my group supervisor asking if it would be possible to not attend group supervision because I only had one client remaining and was also receiving supervision through an externship (i was recieving a total of 4 hours of supervision for one singular client and clients i was seeing at another site. I did not state that I was stopping supervision i just wanted to ask the bbs requirements as my individual supervisor stated i had too many hours. I asked for guidance and specifically stated that I wanted to follow clinic policies and procedures and did not want to overstep. I even stated in my email that it is not my intention to disrespect. i AM LITERALLY NEW TO THIS. i am a student and in school to LEARN.

  1. They additionally accused me of being absent from group supervison on memorial day week and it turns out that i was ‘absent’ because our groupsuper visor did not inform me our meeting was switched to zoom and did not ask for my availability my classmates told me that she told the group she was going to ask me what my availability was so i could attend and she did NOT (during the time of the meeting she chose i was additionally at my other clinical site…idk how i am expected to be at 2 places at once)

  2. additionally they misconstruted my own supervisors words saying they met w her and that they did not hear the same explaination from me anf her stating that my “integruity is questionale” ; my primary supervisor sent them an email saying that misconstruded her words and i believe this is still under review as well

The clinic viewed this as a professionalism/communication concern. i take full accountability for turning in my paperwork late but this just seems extreme to me…..i want to add that my classmates, my primary supervisor and my therapist are all happy to testify for me

I had previously been placed on PIPs and a remediation plan due to these two major incidents of group supervision. The program is arguing that I did not meet remediation requirements. My concern is that some of the incidents being used to support that conclusion involve factual disputes.

I have a meeting coming up with my program director and potentially the Dean. they did not ask for my side of the story when making this entire decision. I am trying to understand:

* From the perspective of faculty/supervisors, does this sound like a situation where dismissal from the program would be considered appropriate?

* i just need advice and encouragement i dont think this is fair as i am literally months away from graduating……..i feel like a failture and feel insanley depressed. i have not eaten since recieving the news its been about a week and a half. i have not slept all my dreams are stressful. and i have been crying non stop. all of my hard work of 2 years feels like its for nothing.

I am not looking to avoid accountability. I understand clinical programs need high standards. I am trying to understand whether this sounds like a situation where continued remediation could reasonably be considered instead of dismissal.

Thank you to anyone willing to provide perspective.

EDIT TO CLARIFY THE PAPERWORK I AM REFERRING TO: The documentation they’re referring to has nothing to do w my client /: it’s basically a clinic audit we have to do where we check all our tasks are complete around the office such as making sure we have enough availability, our task list is clear, we have stuff signed off by our supervisor so basically a checklist for misc stuff. I turned in the paperwork itself on time but they had me do some corrections and I did not check my mail box in the office to fix the corrections on time and they got very upset w me bc I didn’t communicate that my corrections would be late it I just GENUINELY forgot /:

Trainee in need of help

I'm looking for some outside perspective because I'm having a hard time understanding whether what is happening is a normal consequence of my situation or whether there are aspects of this that seem unusual. I'm currently an MFT trainee in California and was completing my practicum at my university's training clinic. I am very close to finishing my program. I've completed my direct client-contact hour requirements and only have one course left to retake in the fall.

Over the course of my training, I was placed on two Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) related to concerns about communication, professionalism, and administrative responsibilities. I fully acknowledge that I have made mistakes during my training and have had areas where I needed improvement. At the same time, some of the situations that led to those concerns have left me feeling confused about whether I was being held responsible for decisions that I believed were being made under supervision. For example, my first PIP stemmed from a situation involving a client letter. A client requested a letter in support of their mental health. The clinic's guidance was that trainees could provide attendance-related letters but should consult with their supervisor regarding specific requests. Following that guidance, I spoke directly with my individual supervisor and asked whether I could provide the letter. My supervisor approved it and told me I could proceed.

Based on that approval, I wrote the letter. However, afterward I was told that I should not have done so and was criticized for failing to communicate appropriately and for acting contrary to the expectations of my group supervisor, who is also the assistant clinic director. This situation ultimately became part of the basis for my first PIP. From my perspective, that incident was confusing because I believed I was following the chain of supervision and obtaining approval before taking action. Looking back, I can understand that there may have been differences in expectations between supervisors, but at the time I genuinely believed I was acting appropriately based on the direction I had been given. More recently, I emailed my group supervisor to ask whether it might be possible to withdraw from group supervision because I only had one client remaining on my caseload and was already receiving several hours of supervision through both the clinic and an externship. I was not informing her that I was no longer attending. I was asking whether it was an option and specifically stated that I wanted to make sure I was following clinic policies and procedures.

Approximately one week later, instead of receiving a direct response to my request, I received an email from the clinic director stating that I was in violation of my second PIP and that I would no longer be allowed to continue practicing as a trainee at the clinic. The reasons cited included missed group supervision sessions, communication concerns, late paperwork, concerns regarding professional judgment, and professionalism concerns. One issue is that the clinic states that I was sent an email in April regarding my request and supervision expectations. However, I genuinely cannot find that email anywhere in my inbox, archived folders, spam folder, or trash. There was also confusion surrounding a Zoom supervision meeting that I was apparently expected to attend and did not recieve a link or email about. Because of this, I feel like at least part of the current situation may involve miscommunication.

The clinic has now instructed me to transfer my remaining client, complete all documentation, and exit the clinic. At the same time, the matter has been referred to the committee at my university. I contacted my practicum instructor, who informed me that the practicum committee has not yet made a decision and is meeting this week to review my situation and determine next steps. I have also been encouraged by my supervisor to seek consultation and gather information regarding my options to CAMFT. What has been particularly difficult is that I have invested years into this program, completed most of my coursework, completed my client-contact hour requirements, and am very close to graduation. As a result, I am struggling to understand how likely it is that losing a practicum site near the end of a program results in remediation, delay of graduation, suspension, dismissal, or some other outcome.

My questions are:

* Has anyone experienced being removed from a practicum site near the end of their program?

* What happened academically afterward?

* How much weight do programs usually give to the fact that a student is close to graduation?

* Should I be focused on preparing an appeal, gathering documentation, or simply waiting for the committee's decision?

* Does this sound like a situation that typically leads to remediation, delay of graduation, suspension, or dismissal?

I am genuinely looking for honest feedback and perspectives from people who have been through similar situations. I am trying to remain professional and cooperative while also understanding my rights, responsibilities, and available options.
