Moto camping setup, as requested

Spent 5 days and 4 nights on the Idaho BDR. Epic to say the least. Rode from N to S. I’ll need to go back this fall and finish the Yellow Pine to Jarbidge sections.

Durston Xmid2
Enlightened Equipment 30 degree quilt
Thermarest neotherm
Sea to summit pilow

Mosko moto reckless 40 with a 30 l sea to summit dry bag instead of the native 20 l stinger

Mosko moto gnome tank bag

Camelback backpack with back protector

Any questions?

IDBDR day 3!

Doing north to south. Combined the first two sections in the north on day one. Made it to Lolo this afternoon for a late lunch. Heading to Darby for a hotel night. I’m having a great time!

2” receiver hitch rack

I need to buy a hitch rack for my CRF 300 L. Wet weight is around 320 I think. I’m looking at all kinds of options but I’ve pretty much ruled out the bottom of the barrel Harbor freight stuff.

I think I’ve narrowed it down to Versahaul, Mototote, or maybe Black Widow, which is the cheapest option. I wish I could spend the money on a one up or rack and ride or something like that but they are just crazy expensive.

Does anyone have any real world feedback on any of these three I’m thinking about? I’ve seen the steel Harbor freight one in person and it’s OK but the ramp is totally smooth which leads to some spinning out if loading it under power. Also, I just don’t trust something like that to Harbor freight in this case.

I’ll be putting it on the front of my 2018 ram 3500. The truck holds a Bigfoot camper most of the time so a rear rack is out of the question for now.

Giant Loop Crane Hot Springs 2026

Rode in from Boise the southern route and the weather was raucous!!! High winds, driving rain, sleet, hail… Some event tents were destroyed. This is my 1st event like this and I’m already having a blast.

Drain plug and crush washer question

  1. Purchased it almost 2 years ago with 800 miles. It now has 1950 miles and I finally am changing the oil. Maybe for the first time? My drain plug is a torx T 50. When I took it out, there was no crush washer. The Honda oil change kit I got came with 2 quarts of 10W30 Pro Honda synthetic oil, oil filter, oil, filter gasket, and what I presume to be a crush washer. The silver thing. The diameter is too small to fit on the drain plug. So I just put the plug back in with no washer like it was. It was never leaking oil or anything. What does everyone else have for a drain plug?

I bought the Roja Moto tool kit, the deluxe around the world one and it does not have a T 50 fitting in it, which I found odd because I thought it was comprehensive. Of course, I have one in my toolbox at home but just an observation.

First “crash”

I got on some of the most technical trail I’ve ever been on yesterday and had my first crash on this bike. I’d descended a rapidly deteriorating/increasingly technical section and was really pushing my limits. I decided to turn around before the trail got worse, and I ran out of time to get home for an appointment. On the way back up I kind of goosed it a little too hard up this gully and ended up high on the bank and just slowly low sided it. No damage to bike or myself. Was a fun day on the bike and a good session of limit pushing. Will be back.

Definitely need some more aggressive tires, still running the stock ones. Everyone says D606 rear, MT 21 front. Looking for other recommendations for very aggressive DOT tires.
