Smartguard & Running

Hey all, I’m currently trialling the 780G, simplera sync and smartguard. I’m 2 weeks in. So far I’m 95% time in range and my experience has been mostly positive; the simplera sensors are incredibly accurate for me, the connection with the pump is rock solid, the infusion sets are comfortable and leak free.

But, the biggest issue I’m facing is running. I run roughly 30- 40km a week, I’ve been setting the temp rate 2 hours before, I cut my lunch bolus by 50%, my glucose will then go to 8- 9 mmol/L and smartguard will kick in and autobolus, then when I go to run I’m constantly chugging glucose to keep me above 4.0 mmol/L. I’m having to eat about 100g+ carbs just to prevent hypos!

Is there anything I can do, or is smartguard just that aggressive? I don’t want to commit to 4 years of fighting this thing every time I want to go out and run, I’d rather sacrifice some TIR to know I’m going to be safe when I’m running

Omnipod and Running 🏃

So currently my Tandem T slim pump is now out of warranty and I wasn’t a fan and I’m currently working with my working with my diabetes team to try out new AID insulin systems before committing to one! I should also mention I’m UK based if it makes a difference.

This last 2 weeks I’ve been trying out the Medtronic 780G with simplera and smartguard, and outside of running it’s been doing well. BUT I am an avid runner, I do 40km a week, and also in the gym 2/ 3 days a week, and the aggressiveness of smartguard has me scrambling for sweets constantly before running, to get my glucose >7.0 mmol/L and during to stop me crashing low.

My question to the Omnipod community is this, are any of you runners (half marathon to marathon distance) and find the Omnipod handles an active lifestyle better than Medtronic’s system? Or is this an issue I will have am with any AID system?

Also how whats the UK based podders experience getting Dexcom sensors rather than Libre from their diabetes team? I need a follow app for my wife and ideally apple watch access.
