The SOON NOT Most Awful IMAX Screen in Socal!?

So, this is a shocking sequel to the original "The Most Awful IMAX Screen in Socal" post. In the original post, I mentioned the god awful and old AMC Theater at the Galleria Mall in Tyler, Riverside. At the time, it was horrible, and as recently, it still is, but the worst part of it was the trashy LieMAX screen. Films shown on screen being blurry, somewhat dark, and not beautiful. The seats were the classic-dirty red stadium-style seats, and the sound was the old IMAX system. Now, the important part that I mention is when I asked one of the managers when the IMAX theater would be renovated. Originally, he told that it would be 2027 with an alleged 1.43:1 screen and comfy seats. At the time, I had some trust in what he said, except about the 1.43:1 screen. And now, we come to today. Unfortunately the AMC Tyler was the only close IMAX screen to where I live and I heard the news that Top Gun and Top Gun: Maverick were going to be extended for one week. Sadly, the extension was only for normal screens, not IMAX, and I didn't know until I went on the app. From there, I thought it was just the film not being in IMAX no more, so I checked the showings for "The Mandalorian and Grogu", but to my surprise the IMAX showtimes were not there. I digged deep into finding what was going on, until I realized something was wrong, so I decided to see if there was coverage on what happened, and I stumbled on something that shocked me... "The IMAX screen at the AMC Tyler mall is being renovated" Oh... My... GOODNESS!! At last, the awful Xenon IMAX screen was getting the corp blessing! This begs the question... Is the AMC Tyler Mall IMAX now going to be The SOON NOT Most Awful IMAX Screen in Socal!? Time will tell...

Happy Birthday, Top Gun!: IMAX Weekly Report (May 10th-16th 2026)

Gooooood evening IMAX fans, this is the Weekly Report for the 2nd week of May, also known as the celebration week of the Maverick, aka Top Gun!

Celebrate the Top Gun 40th Anniversary in IMAX(1/3): Beginning May 13th, the celebration of the iconic release of "Top Gun" and master pilot Tom Cruise begins with a one-week release of the OG Top Gun and the IMAX-made "Top Gun: Maverick"! You better hurry, because many theaters are already selling out, showing that Lieutenant Mitchell still has a kick of popularity! Top Gun: 40th Anniversary and Top Gun: Maverick are rereleasing in IMAX on May 13th, buy your tickets now!

Hola, Central America! (2/3): Although internationally popular, not all parts of the world have had the fortune to have IMAX screens everywhere, such as the case in El Salvador's Libertad Theater. Historically, the nation has had trouble getting on its feet and become popular with tourists, until Nayib Bukele stepped in and changed every bit of his nation, including the entertainment industry. Now, one of San Salvadors historical theaters, the Libertad Theater, is becoming the nation's first IMAX theater, commissioned by it's very own president. When built and constructed fully, the Libertad will house four floors, including two for the main stage, one for the projector and cafe rooms, and one for the rooftop terrance. The projector and sound is expected to be state-of-the-art, with reports indicating an exclusive-projector not seen in most IMAX theaters. The theater is anticipating for a very soon opening. More will come later as we follow this news.

Reasonable-priced tickets, or Concert-priced tickets? (3/3): "Dune: Part Three" is anticipated to be one of the top blockbuster movies of 2026, but something was odd. Tickets for the IMAX 70mm showings (similarly to The Odyssey) released months in advance to capitalize on the crowd who would do anything to watch the iconic finale of the series in glorius IMAX, but to the discovery of all fans, ticket prices were at an astonishing $50 per seat. The community began mocking the release as "Concert-priced Scheme", playing a nod to the infamous strategies of many ticket companies. Now, don't begin panicking though. It's probably expected that the usual $30+ seats will be released during the usual month-before sale for "Dune: Part Three", hopefully. If not, we are in for a Swifty-priced Event.

And this concludes the IMAX Weekly Report for May 10th-16th, 2026! If you have any input or opinions about today's reports, you may leave your comments! Till next time, I'm Lordsoysauce, and as always... IMAX Is Believing!!!
