Mushroom in Harriman state park, NY
Found it shortly after I came out. I do not know mycology, so I left it alone. First time I hiked in a dress, and I regretted it; I was eaten alive by mosquitoes.

I was at Lewey Lake last week at the state campground and it was clear that people are feeding these animals. At first this red squirrel was looking for dropped food at our feet(being responsible campers, we didn’t drop any food, accidentally or on purpose), but after making noise to repel it numerous times it got aggressive. At first it went after my chihuahua who I promptly picked up. Then it climbed up my bare leg trying to get to the dog, which I kicked it off. Then it climbed up my father’s leg which was the last thing that squirrel did since he had his camp shovel in reach. We brought the carcass to the ranger, who reported it to the local and state health departments. We were interviewed by the local public health nurse and had it tested. Testing showed that it was not rabid. I am still asking my doctor today for rabies treatment today since it’s claws were on broken skin. People’s feeding that cute squirrel led to its demise. Wildlife should be afraid of humans, not attracted to it. Never feed the wildlife!!!
