Sailors who served USS Skate {SSN-578}
My father served on the USS-Skate from 1978-82. He was honorably discharged in the summer of 82 at an E-5 grade. Nearly 14 years ago he took his life. I know very little about his service other than what I can gather from his DD-214 that he was stationed in Pearl Harbor. I'm hoping to find someone that may have served with him or called him friend in this time period that would be willing to share stories you may remember of your and his time. I have a 7 year old daughter that both of her grandfathers died by their own hand. It would be such a blessing to be able to have anything that I could share with her about him. He did not speak much about his service. He suffered with life-long depression and had a very, very difficult childhood that I am aware of. The US Navy saved his life long enough for him to marry and have 4 children. I'll always be grateful for the Navy and that it gave him the tools to build a life for as long as he did. He always credited the Navy for him being alive when I was a child. I know it is unlikely, but if you did serve on the Skate during this period please direct message me and I will provide his name. Thank you all.
