Executor info needed.
Hello all, long time lurker, first time poster.
Without going into the nitty gritty of our family finances I’d like to just summarize my confusion.
My parents are getting older and are now getting their finances in order (sort of) for when they pass. It has come up that my mother’s will hasn’t been updated since I was a small child (she insists that updating the will is a huge ordeal). And she has no plans to update it because she says nothing has changed. Because I was a minor at the time of the will signing, my aunt has been named executor. The will states (apparently) that my aunt will be the executor of the estate until I become of adult age. All of my googling of executor info has told me that for me to be the executor of someone’s estate, I personally need to sign a document stating I’m taking the responsibility of my said estate.
So my question/confusion is, now that I’m of legal age to be an executor does it automatically become my responsibility when they pass or do I still need to sign something stating I’m taking responsibility.
Please keep in mind that I have not physically seen this will nor I am sure that the information my mother has gave me is correct. I may be useless in answering questions about additional details.
TIA for your help
