Has anyone straight up replaced the SF2 cabinet’s Pi with a Windows PC? Aka I’ve had good results so far but have questions about the controllers.

My goal is to hook up a PC running Launch Box/Big Box. Replace the buttons and sticks and use everything else without heavy hardware modification, so I can always easily roll back, in the event I need to sell the cabinet.

Here’s what I tested so far.

PC connects to monitor in 4:3 using an HDMI. ✅
Audio connects to the PC using a 3.5 cable. ✅
USBs for controller can’t reach PC ports. ❌

Now before I take this text further and spend money, has anyone had success connecting the control deck to a WIndows 11 PC? And can anyone point me to button upgrade tutorials?

Appreciate it all.

Thoughts on Doom PSX

Doom PSX was the second version of Doom I played. The 32x version was the first. I’m playing through the PSX version and I honestly think this version is better than the original.

It’s got moody music and lighting. Sound effects and demons’ screams echo depending on the room. It feels like Doom leaning into horror. It’s even got Doom 2 monsters in Doom 1 levels.

I don’t mind the controls. For the uninitiated, this version predates dual analog sticks. So up/down/left/right are done on the d-pad, and strifing is done with R1 and L1 (or which ever button you assign it.)

It also treats Ultimate Doom and Doom 2 as one campaign. Sorta. There are original endings in between the two games. The rabbit story is removed. But there are no ammo resets between episodes and even entire games. You just play straight through all the levels.

To me this is the best version of Doom. Now if only someone could mod it to support analog sticks.

What are your thoughts on Doom PSX?
