Welcome to the Long Deadline Profile Exchange... We Have Cookies!

Welcome to the Long Deadline Profile Exchange... We Have Cookies!

G'day, mates!

First of all, thank you so much to u/tsuki_anne for the poster.

Second of all... happy Friday! And welcome to the Long Deadline Profile Exchange! We have cookies! And by cookies, I mean profiles.

What's the Long Deadline Profile Exchange?

This is a subreddit event where everyone posts their AO3 (or FFN, etc.) profile with some information about the sorts of stories they write. Then, participants look through the available profiles, and read and leave comments on stories (one-shots or a chapter of a longer fic) by authors who catch their fancy. Leaving a kudos would be nice too!

DEADLINE FOR ENTRY is Monday 25th May, 3pm AEST (UTC+10)

DEADLINE FOR COMPLETION is Sunday 31st May, 3pm AEST (UTC+10)

Here's a time zone converter for anyone who needs it.

What Are the Rules?

Post your profile link with a short summary of the kinds of stories one might find there (fandom, genre, rating, etc.). Please spoiler anything triggering or NSFW.

Once you enter, you will have to review at least 4 stories/chapters from 4 different profiles (one from each).

Please include in your submission a counter such as, "Reviewed 0/4" so we can keep track of the number of reviews you've done. There's no need to also note which stories or authors you have reviewed.

After you've left a comment, reply to their post on here to let them know. For anyone new, 'K&C' in a reply stands for 'Kudos and Comment'.

Your reviews should be thoughtful. The writer should be able to tell that you read the story. Say what you like about the story. Did something crack you up? Were you brought to tears? Did you have a favourite part? TELL THEM ABOUT IT! At least 50 words per review. ConCrit, stating you are "fandom blind" and/or "from Reddit" are opt-in only.

Please only reply to an individual entry when you've read their fic or if you want to ask a question. Also, please refrain from adding GIFs and images to replies as they are not relevant to whether you've reviewed a fic. We're happy that you're excited about reading, but unfortunately these make it hard for users (and mods!) to navigate the thread.

If possible, it would be awesome if everyone read at least one person who is new to them.

If you enter the exchange, please do not delete your entry. You must complete the required reviews for the exchange. Please talk to the mods if something comes up and you have concerns about doing something in a timely manner.

But above all, have fun and happy reading and reviewing!

Fandom Showcase Extravaganza EXTENDED SIGNUP DEADLINE!

Hey, guys!

We're so grateful for the signups we've already seen for the Fandom Showcase Extravaganza. So many great fandoms on the list. It's already shaping up to be a great showcase.

Technically, the deadline for signing up passed a couple days ago, but we decided to extend the deadline. We still have 15 slots available.

Here's the sign up sheet again.

The new deadline to signup is Tuesday May 26th 11:59pm EST.

This can be anything. A movie, a TV show, YouTube - heck, you can even do a recording of yourself reading a book, if you want. All we ask is that what you show is from a nonpirated source.

And as stated in the post announcing this, participation will require being a member of our Discord, since that's where all our streams will take place.

Can't wait to showcase all these fandoms!

Regards,

The Mod Team

The Octave Rating Exchange - Part 1: G&T Edition (General Audiences & Teen and Up)

EDIT: CLOSED TO NEW ENTRIES! Happy reading and reviewing!

**

G'day, mates!

(For anyone wondering about the title: an octave is the distance from one musical note to the next with the same name; it spans eight scale steps.)

It's been a hot minute since I hosted one of these, so I decided to bring this back. Welcome to the eighth round of the Ratings Exchange!

Just like the previous seven versions, this RE will be split into two parts, and they'll run the same as before.

Part 1 is specifically for stories and/or chapters rated General Audiences and/or Teen and Up. As always, the ratings will be based on the ratings system on AO3. (Link's there as a refresher; I also know we have some peeps here who post outside of AO3.)

To the exclusively Mature/Explicit writers, don't worry. Your turn in the spotlight is coming. But you're more than welcome to drop by and give people some love if you wish. Love makes the world go round.

I said "stories and/or chapters" because I'm also allowing chapters from a Mature/Explicit story that meets the criteria for General Audiences/Teen and Up. We've all been there; writing a story predominantly G or T but having to bump up the rating because of one NSFW chapter/scene.

The rules are pretty simple. Everyone can submit a maximum of two (2) stories/chapters. You can submit any of the following combinations:

  • 1 General Audiences story/chapter and 1 Teen and Up story/chapter
  • 2 General Audiences stories/chapters
  • 2 Teen and Up stories/chapters

Your submissions must include the required information - link, fandom, rating, tags, warnings, etc. NSFW/triggering tags/warnings need to be spoilered.

Due to the nature of this RE, unrated stories (i.e. stories set to Not Rated on AO3) will not be allowed. If your story is tagged 'Rating May Change', you're allowed to submit it if it's G or T at the time of this RE.

Same rules apply to works outside AO3.

Participants will have to review two (2) authors. At least one (1) story by each.

Reviews should be at least 50 words (not including quotes from the fic). ConCrit, fandom blind and/or 'from Reddit' are opt-in only. Only include these if the author explicitly states it's okay.

Same deadlines as always from me: 48 hours to enter, one week to complete reviews. Submissions will close Wednesday May 20 6pm AEST. Reviews will be due Wednesday May 27 6pm AEST. Reminders will be sent out 48 hours before the deadline.

To recap:

  • This is the G&T round of the Ratings Exchange - stories rated General Audiences and/or Teen and Up. Chapters from Mature/Explicit stories that meet the criteria are welcome. Not Rated submissions are not allowed.
  • Participants can submit up to two (2) stories and must review at least one (1) story by two (2) separate authors.
  • Submissions close Wednesday May 20 6pm AEST - reviews are due Wednesday May 27 6pm AEST.

But above all, have fun and happy reading and reviewing!

Fanfiction Diversity Fest - Identity and Truth

G'day, mates!

By the way, shoutout to the amazing u/tsuki_anne for the beautiful poster.

We are so excited to announce the return of the massively successful Fandom Diversity Fest! This is an opportunity for us to showcase the uniqueness and diversity of fandoms in our sub!

Please read the post in its entirety as the rules for this fest and the subsequent exchange are different than most of the fests/exchanges we do on the sub.

This year's theme is...

Identity and Truth

This means your fic must be on the theme of identity and include the word "truth" or some variation like "truthful". You do not need to include the word "identity". All fandoms, ships, ratings, genres and tags are welcome, and you can include any tropes you would like. This fest is also open to OG works as well!

Conditions:

  • This fest is 18+ because of the different kind of reading requirement.
  • All participants will write a fic on the theme that is 2500 words or less. The fic must be written specifically for this fest and cannot be an already published work. Once again, your fic may be at maximum 2500 words. There are no exceptions to this rule due to the increased reading requirement for the exchange.
  • This fest is only open to active members of the sub. In order to be considered active, you must have participated in at least two review exchanges to participate. (Yes, we do check.) If you're not an active member before the deadline to sign up, your sign up will not be accepted.
  • By participating, you agree to take part in a special fest review exchange after all the expected works are posted to the collection when the deadline for writing passes. This exchange will have a much longer deadline than usual, because we will review all the other posted works (participants will be able to opt out of a set number of works for any reason). If you submit your work, but do not participate in the exchange afterwards, you agree that your work will be removed from the collection.
  • If the group is too large for everyone to feasibly read everyone's fics during the time limit, we may split everyone into smaller groups.

Deadlines (all deadlines are 11:59pm EST):

Sunday June 14th is the last day for sign-ups

Friday July 31st is the last day for submitting your work

i.e. you have just under a month to sign up and just over six weeks from the signup deadline to write and post your fic. The collection will be opened on AO3 at a later date.

In the days following July 31st, a fest RE will be opened. The review deadline will be at least one month, depending on the number of submissions.

Sign Up Here. For any fields where you're uncertain, just put TBD. The only compulsory ones at the moment are the Reddit and AO3 usernames. If you can't access Google Sheets, send us a modmail and we'll add you. The sheet will ask for the following details: Reddit Username, AO3 Username, Fandom (or OG), Pairing (If Applicable), Genre (Optional), Status.

You can also sign up to be a beta or brainstorming buddy here. In case you can't participate, this would be a great way to still support your fellow community members. Of course, even if you do participate, you can still offer to be a beta or brainstorm buddy.

Just a note to please share content warnings with your beta before coming to an agreement.

Thanks for giving this post your attention, and happy writing, everyone!

The Fluff Exchange

G'day, mates!

Anyone feeling fluffy? Sweet? Swoony? Feeling like reading so much fluff, you'll need to go to the dentist to get your cavities fixed?

Well, you've come to the right place. Welcome to the Fluff Exchange!

Now, this fluff can be anything. Platonic. Romantic. Domestic. Family. Come with a slight touch of angst. (But be predominantly fluffy.) Even a bit of NSFW fluff. Basically, if you've got fluff, we want it.

Now, you can enter up to three (3) fics/chapters that contain fluff. The typical information is required - link, rating, tags (anything NSFW/triggering needs to be spoilered per Rule 13), etc. In return, you'll have to review three (3) fics from three (3) different authors (one from each). 50 words per review (not including quotes from the fic). ConCrit, fandom blind, and 'from Reddit' are all opt-in only.

DEADLINE TO ENTER: 12th May 6pm AEST

DEADLINE TO REVIEW: 19th May 6pm AEST

Reminders will go out 48 hours before the deadline. Here's a time zone converter if anyone needs it.

But above all, have fun and happy reading and reviewing!

G'day, mates!

(Yes, I'm making this post a day late. Got distracted by duties as an auntie.)

This has proven to be a highlight of our events calendar for the last couple of years and we are excited to bring this back for the third year running.

I am proudly announcing the return of the Fandom Showcase Extravaganza!

The Extravaganza is designed to introduce people to new fandoms they might never have interacted with before or learn more about a fandom if you've previously read a fic fandom blind.

We're going to be hosting a series of livestreams on Discord where you'll get the opportunity to introduce your fandom to the rest of us. You get to show your movie, at least one episode of your TV show (how many you show in a single scream depends on the length of the episodes themselves; e.g. if your TV show's episodes are only 15 minutes in length, you can get away with showing more than one), or a brief YouTube video breaking down your fandom (e.g. if your fandom is a video game, you could show a YouTube video that tells the game's story in 15 minutes, or even stream a brief playthrough).

We have a signup sheet on Google Sheets, which can be found here. It's a bit different to last year. The signup sheet now has you choosing your slots. u/tsuki_anne (special shoutout to you for putting this sheet together, BTW) and I have already signed up, so you can see what you have to do. The principle is the same. You sign up with your Reddit/Discord username (which should be the same) and state what you want to stream. When you put in your time and time zone, it'll automatically convert to other time zones in the columns towards the end.

You will need to include potential content/trigger warnings and where you will be streaming from. Streaming services (e.g. Netflix, Paramount+), YouTube, Dailymotion - that's all okay. However, we cannot allow streams from pirated sources.

If you want to take part, but feel you might run into issues streaming (i.e. spotty internet connection), please tell us and we can arrange for someone to host on your behalf. You're also more than welcome to watch any of the streams scheduled if you don't want to host one.

If you miss out or don't feel ready now, that's okay. This is officially a yearly event, and you are free to organise your own streams outside of this event. (We've seen a few organised since the last one.) Also, if you participated last year or the year before, you're more than welcome to participate again. You can either showcase another fandom or the same one from your last stream. This is open for everyone.

Signups will be open until Tuesday May 19th 11:59pm EST. Like I said, you're choosing your slot this time. There will be two slots per Saturday and Sunday. First stream will be Saturday June 6 and the final stream will be Sunday July 26th.

Since these streams will be run on Discord, participation will require everyone (particularly those who want to host a stream) to have a Discord account and be part of our Discord (you can find the link to our Discord under Stuff to Do on the side of the page).

If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to ask and we'll do our best to answer. We're so excited to bring this back and can't wait to be introduced to a wide variety of fandoms.

Kind regards,

The Mod Team

G'day, mates!

After the success of the OC RE I ran recently, I decided to bring this up. I feel like it's been a minute and, as someone who writes more Canon/OC pairings than Canon/Canon, I decided... why not?

This exchange is for fics where the main ship is a Canon Character with an OC (original character) of your creation. There can be other pairings in the story, but your Canon/OC pairing has to be the main focus. The pairing itself can be M/M, F/F, or F/M. (Or any combination I'm forgetting to include - it's all welcome. This is the dark side, and Canon/OC pairings are the cookings.) This RE is for romantic pairings, so pairings with a / rather than an &.

You can share up to three (3) links. These three links can be three chapters from the same fic that really focus on your Canon/OC pairing, or you can do up to three separate stories. The choice is yours.

The typical information is required - link, rating, tags (please spoiler anything triggering/NSFW), etc. - but I also want you to do a quick blurb on your OC. Just a brief overview of who they are, the canon character they're paired with, anyone else they're linked to, etc.

Since you can share up to three links/stories, participants will have to review three (3) fics from three (3) separate orders (one from each). 50 words per review (not including quotes from the fic). ConCrit, fandom blind and 'from Reddit' are all opt-in only.

Same deadlines as the OC RE - 48 hours to enter, one week to complete reviews. The entry deadline will be Friday May 1 6pm AEST. The review deadline will be Friday May 8 6pm AEST. Since I'm a permanently exhausted pigeon from the Land Down Under, here is a time zone converter if you need it.

But above all, have fun and happy reading and reviewing!
