Thoughts after first RTT of 11th
Had an interesting day yesterday at my first RTT of 11th.
Ended up going 3-0 against Gene Stealers (recon, 100-45), CSM (take and hold, 97-26), and Ultramarines (purge, 95-74).
I ran purge GWL + DF with this list:
Fast Cats (1,990 Points) | Imperium - Imperial Knights | Dominus Foebreakers and Gate Warden Lance (3 Detachment Points)
• Knight Castellan (Warlord, 2x SML, EAA, TSC) [425]
• Knight Castellan (2x SML, EAH, TSC) [440]
• Knight Destrier (CGC, FB, QHS, TF) [265]
• Knight Destrier (CGC, EVT, FB, QHS, TF) [280]
• Knight Gallant (EPH, ME, SRP) [375]
• Culexus Assassin [85]
• Eversor Assassin [120]
Thoughts on our army:
- We are very lethal right now with access to Castellans at 400-420 points (before enhancements). Towering plus access to +1 to hit in dominus foebreakers means we can routinely hit on 2+ if we play around cover and towering properly.
- This also means splitting guns is situationally the right call with good strategem usage. Being able to pick up 2+ hard targets per activation allows us to punch up very well. An anecdotal example was the two Castellans were able to pick up a land raider, a sky speeder, and 2 ballistus dreads, plus some bladeguard vet models in 1 turn.
- Hidden is going to be a challenge for us into melee matchups. Had a few cases where I got tagged or killed on a destrier while in terrain and I wasn't eligible to retaliate because they haven't shot the previous turn.
- Our movement quality is exceptional for board control. In all three games I took this and never thought twice. There was situationally strong opportunities where a re roll would have been nice but generally had more than enough firepower to make up for it. I do think that in select matchups the OC and leadership will matter more such as tyranids.
- Purge seems to suit us well, especially into mirror matchups. We have so few units that opponents won't typically be able to pick up more than you can. Priority assets will likely become our best option. I could see a valiant being a valid central objective holder with the flamer to ignores cover on the flamer and short range of the harpoon.
- Big knight skew seems a lot better. I never felt that I wanted Armigers at any point. Destriers provided much more speed and reliably kill MEQ blocks on objectives.
Happy to answer any questions.
