Should I Use Minoxidil Before Receiving an Official Diagnosis?

Hi guys so I need a bit of advice on how I should move forward.

About 3ish years ago I started noticing a lot of shedding whenever I'd wash and style my hair. My overall hair density was fine but in general my middle part looked a little wider than usual. Recently I (F18) noticed a lot of thinning around my crown area and a significant decrease in my overall hair density and my scalp has become more visible (my part resembles a christmas tree pattern when it's greasy). In addition to that, my hair sheds ALOT in the shower but not much when it's dry and some of the new growth is thinner then other hair strands. I had a doctor’s appointment and got some bloodwork done to check my vitamin d, iron, ferritin, thyroid and b12 levels. Everything was fine besides my ferritin which was at a 5. My doctor said this might be a potential cause for my hairloss but she said she isn’t going to rule out other causes. She told me to start taking iron supplements and come back in two months to get some more bloodwork done to see if my ferritin levels increase and if the shedding stops. My question is, while I'm waiting for my next doctor's appointment and taking iron supplements, should I start using topical minoxidil in the meantime? Or should I wait until I get an official diagnosis for my hairloss?
