Looking to add to the stable: 2023 BMW R18 vs. 2016 Harley Dyna (Clubstyle)

I know this type of question gets asked a lot, but I’m currently looking to pick up a used cruiser to add to my garage. I already own a 2018 V-Strom 1000XT and a DR-Z400SM, so I'm looking for something different to round things out.

I’ve narrowed it down to two specific used options:

  1. 2023 BMW R18 (Base Model)
    • Mileage: ~3,700 miles (6,000 km)
    • Price: ~$10,000
    • Details: Equipped with reverse gear. The open recall on the reverse module hasn't been performed yet.
  2. 2016 Harley-Davidson Dyna
    • Mileage: ~28,000 miles (45,000 km)
    • Price: ~$12,000
    • Details: Higher mileage, but it’s fully dialed in as a Clubstyle build with Thrashin Supply parts.

Primary Use Case:

  • Daily commute to university: ~25 miles (40 km) round trip (high traffic)
  • Weekend rides: ~60 to 120 miles (100–200 km) day trips

Considering the price difference, mileage, ease of maintenance/wrenchability, and daily rideability, which one would you recommend? Would love to hear your thoughts, especially from anyone who has seat time on either.

Thanks in advance!
