I'm replacing a motor on an old 36" x 36" attic fan. Motor started screeching and seized up. It's a GE 5kh35kg277, 1/3hp, 48 frame, 1725 rpm, 115V. I'd like to replace it with a variable speed motor so I can run it quietly at night. The single speed makes the fan pretty loud.

How do I go about doing this? Buy a variable speed fan or buy a wall switch that controls the speed?
