DevOps Internship as a Fresher – Is It a Good Career Start, or Should I Consider Other IT Roles?

Hey everyone,
I’m currently in my final year of BE Computer Science and Engineering. I’m interested in starting my career in IT and have an opportunity to pursue a DevOps internship.
I’d like some honest advice from people already working in the industry.
Is DevOps a good career choice for a fresher in 2026?
How difficult is it to get a full-time DevOps or Cloud Engineer job after an internship?
Should I focus on DevOps, Cloud Computing, Software Testing, Cybersecurity, or another IT role?
Are entry-level DevOps jobs available for freshers, or do most companies expect prior IT experience?
What skills and certifications would you recommend to become job-ready?
My goal is to secure a decent-paying IT job after graduation and build a career with good long-term growth.
I’d appreciate realistic advice about the job market, salary expectations, and which path would be best for a fresher. Thanks!

Final-Year CSE Student + Flutter Developer Looking to Move Into Cybersecurity — Which Field Should I Target as a Fresher?

Hi everyone,
I’m a final-year CSE student from India and currently working mainly as a Flutter developer. I have experience with Flutter/Dart, Firebase and application development, but I’m considering moving into cybersecurity as my career after graduation.
I’m confused about which cybersecurity field would be the best entry point for someone with a software development background.

I’m currently considering:

SOC Analyst / Security Operations
Blue Team / Defensive Security
Vulnerability Management
Penetration Testing
GRC
Cloud Security
Security Analyst
IAM
Incident Response
Security Engineering

My main questions are:

  1. Which cybersecurity roles are realistically accessible to a fresher in 2026?
  2. Does my Flutter/software development background give me any advantage when entering cybersecurity?
  3. Would it be better to start with SOC Analyst, or should I target another security role?
  4. Which cybersecurity fields have the most fresher/entry-level opportunities?
  5. Which roles involve relatively less coding?
  6. What skills should I learn first — Networking, Linux, SIEM, Windows/AD, Python, Cloud, etc.?
  7. Are certifications such as Security+, CEH, Google Cybersecurity Certificate, AZ-900/AZ-500 worth doing as a fresher?
  8. How valuable are TryHackMe, Hack The Box, CTFs, home labs and GitHub security projects when applying for jobs?
  9. Should I completely leave software development behind, or can I combine my development experience with cybersecurity?
  10. For an Indian fresher, are there realistic opportunities in India, GCC/UAE, Europe, or other countries?
  11. If you were in my position — final-year CSE + Flutter developer + interested in cybersecurity — what path would you take for the next 6–12 months?

I’m especially interested in hearing from people who are already working in cybersecurity or have recently hired/mentored freshers.
Thanks!
