Help with new pup!
Hi all! My boyfriend and I recently moved back to his hometown and found ourselves with a new baby! His friends have property that backs the woods and found a dog out there while hunting. We ended up taking care of her as we put up posters and made Facebook announcements, but nobody ever claimed her. When we first started taking care of her, she was very skinny and timid. I’m talking like a bag of bones and skin, it was disheartening. (First three slides) The vet gave us an estimate for her age, about 6-7 months old. After going to the vet and getting everything sorted out our main priority was making sure that she was eating and gaining weight in a healthy matter.
Flash forward to current day she’s about 8-9 months old and we are struggling with training. She is now in a kennel at home while we are away at work due to her, ripping through the sidewall next to the front door and almost escaping. (Fourth slide) While she is very smart and understands what to do she is also very resilient and will (what feels like) purposely ignore you when training. We used some high reward treats to start training in the very beginning and now seems as though she doesn’t care for them anymore. I am used to training labs but this breed definitely needs a bit more than what I’m used to. Any advice would be helpful thank you!
