Chilling out or something bad?

My girl is 14 months and as of the past few weeks I’ve noticed she’s calmed down significantly. Don’t get me wrong, when it’s time to go out for a walk or off-leash adventure, she’s ready to go. But I’m noticing now if we’re inside the house it’s much easier for her to just laze around and relax.

Which I should be happy about but it worries me - is she sick? Bored? Or is this typical growing into an adult dog and we’re getting past the puppy phase?

Keeping GSP Entertained on Hot Days

Howdy folks! My girl Addie is 5, turning 6 soon here. We live in North Carolina, where the heat and humidity alone can be worrisome. I suppose I’ve never really had an issue keeping her occupied up until now, but her normal games of fetch and long walks aren’t as practical given 90+ degree days, before humidity.

Does anyone have recommendations on indoor activities that can keep them stimulated/enriched? She’s on Prozac and gabapentin and still seems a bit restless, so I can only imagine what she’d be like without the meds. I’m open to doing things in the home, or bringing her somewhere for enrichment/new activities. A small caveat is she tends to be a loner dog, so activities inside involving direct contact with other dogs would be case by case.

I’ve also seen online suggestions for scent work, tracking or field work to keep their instincts and prey drive strong.

GSP freaks out when it rains.

Hello. My 9 year old male gsp, has in the past 6ish months, had horrible anxiety or panic attacks when it rains (it could even just be misting outside) and someone is not home. I work from home 3-4 days a week. In the office the other days usually from 9-4. He is totally fine being home by himself when it is not raining.

He gets ample exercise (in my opinion) runs a couple miles almost every day, swims in our lake, and plays with the kids.

This afternoon’s destruction has lead me to ask you all for help/tips. This morning I knew it was going to rain, but I had to go into the office. I got up extra early, ran him more than usual. I left the TV running in the living room as I was told by family members that might help. Made sure he had done both #1 and 2 outside.

Has anyone else dealt with this before? Any ideas on why it just started (I haven’t changed jobs and there hasn’t been any lifestyle changes)? Any tips to help my best buddy Zeke?

How to properly tire out a 14 week old GSP while holding full time jobs 😅

My boyfriend works from home and I work 4 10-hour shifts. We’re waking up early for walks and we’re doing frozen Kongs, puzzles, and playtime on repeat for 12 hours a day. We do shorter hikes on the weekends with the hope of her doing longer distance (12+ miles) as she gets older. Any other activities I’m missing?

PS We have one final week before her vaccines kick in and she can be in public and with other dogs! (She’s worth the exhaustion!)

Yes we knew of GSP energy level going in :)

Owning my first dog/GSP, one year later. What everyone says is true

Our beautiful boy Mr. Beauregard just turned one this week and I feel like i can finally make this post. Almost everything everyone said is true about this crazy dog. He is the most loving, caring, and compassionate dog. He is amazing with our 2, almost 3, year old son, while there has been some collisions, he is extremely tolerant with the daily torment he puts up with. Every day is a new adventure and he is hungry for it. While he is an amazing dog it has been a pretty steep learning curve. He requires at the very minimum an hour of exercise each day not including training. Training with us includes recall, being able to hold and stay, retrivial, dropping on command, gun training and being exposed to loud sounds, and a list of trick he does for treats. He strives for learning and is a sponge. I am a hunter so letting him join me in the woods was a big help especially during the winter months where lounging outside isnt an option. If he doesnt get the mental and physical stimulation each day he does tend to be a bit destructive. Crate training has helped tremendously, the ability to give him a safe place to calm down is everything to him. But on the otherside of the coin is The energy. Oh man the energy, its unparalleled. The prey drive is real, every bird or squirrel that wonders into the yard isnt safe. Im sorry this is just a jumbled lump of thoughts but this is currently being written while officiating a game of tug of war between the 2 of them. Thank you to everyone in this community for giving us first time owners advice it is appreciated more than you know

8 mo pup regression?

My GSP/V is amazing. However he has hit this regression mode that I am not sure what to do. He no longer will go into his crate, goes limp noodle on me and no treat, dragging, encouragement works. The most he is ever left alone is 4 hrs. And at that it is only 2 days a week when a dog walker comes in. He has also destroyed 3 dog beds, while we are home, yesterday was after he spent a whole day hanging with his 2 lab cousins. If I leave for less than an hour just to run a quick errand he still gets super upset. He has also regressed on his recall, place, and stay. Nothing has changed in the home, family, or schedule. Any suggestions?

Looking for reference pics

Hey guys, I'm a writer / artist working on a cute little novella that features a German Shorthaired Pointer. I'd live some reference pics of pointers pointing and otherwise being adorable for my artwork. It will likely be pen and ink art. Anyone want to share? I'll send you a free copy and my enternal gratitude if I use any pics you share with me. 💙

Does anyone else’s GSP make them feel guilty for giving a bath?

Im not sure if she’s upset because she’s out the shower. Or because she was bathed.
