Got laid off without severance and without notice
This is a question regarding my girlfriend. She works with a clinic starting from January. So total of 10 months of employment. Today out of nowhere the employer told her that she is being laid off. Since the doctor in clinic resigned so they do not require her to work anymore. Now, the employer told her that she can apply for EI as she is being laid off. And the reason employer told is that you are the newest hire so we have to let you go. The other employee will take her place.
The striking question is - the employer didn’t offer any severance pay after 10 months of work. My gf is not under a contract and works full time in that clinic. They literally have 0 legal grounds for terminating her. She is a good worker and hasn’t had any write ups whatsoever. What are my options and how should we proceed this situation. Much appreciated for the help.
