Juniors, build your TNP right!!!!
Key Recommendations for the TNP Core Team
1. Select the Right Core Members: Select responsible, consistent and capable students who can take ownership of their roles. Student representation in the selection process is important, in line with the principle shared by JSDP Ma’am: “TNP is by the students, for the students and of the students.”
2. Structure TNP Clearly: Define responsibilities across Outreach, POCs, Events & Calendar, and Volunteer Coordination. Outreach should focus on contacts, company outreach and follow-ups, while Events & Calendar should manage company events and faculty coordination through designated POCs.
3. Choose POCs Thoughtfully: Prefer students with good profiles, communication skills, professionalism and a strong sense of responsibility. For the April–June outreach period, students with greater availability, particularly those without internships, may be better suited for regular calls and follow-ups. Responsibilities can be transitioned once companies are onboarded.
4. Start Outreach Early: Begin company research and contact collection in February–March, finalize the brochure by April, begin outreach in April–May, and maintain consistent follow-ups through May–June. Since company onboarding can take considerable time, outreach should continue throughout the placement season.
5. Prepare the Brochure Early: Ideally, the placement brochure should be ready by April. This year, it was reportedly finalized around September end, while outreach began around August end, leaving a relatively short window for effective outreach.
6. Use Faculty Support Effectively: The student team can lead regular outreach and coordination, while faculty support can be sought wherever institutional authority, recruiter communication or event coordination is beneficial. A designated POC can help streamline faculty communication.
7. Maintain Accountability: Set clear responsibilities, targets and regular progress reviews to ensure consistent participation and smooth coordination across the team.
P.S. – Company Prioritization: Give early attention to mass-hiring companies and reputed organizations, followed by banking, non-tech and other relevant companies. Non-tech opportunities can be actively explored for MAE/ECE students, while core-tech opportunities can be extended across ECE, ECEAI, MAE and M.Tech, subject to role eligibility, to ensure broader opportunities across departments.
Key Learnings from the 2027 TNP Process
1. Outreach Timeline: Outreach reportedly began around August end, which resulted in a relatively limited window for company engagement and follow-ups.
2. Brochure Timeline: The brochure was reportedly finalized around September end, making it difficult to use it effectively during the initial outreach period.
3. POC Availability: A significant number of initial POCs had internships, which could naturally limit their availability during May–July. Future POC allocation could therefore consider students' availability alongside other selection criteria.
4. Core Team Selection: The experience highlights the importance of a transparent selection process that considers responsibility, availability, professionalism and commitment.
5. Company Prioritization & Faculty Coordination: Greater early focus on mass-hiring and high-priority companies, along with timely faculty involvement where required, could help strengthen the outreach process.
Final Note: A successful TNP requires strong student ownership, consistent outreach and effective faculty coordination. Faculty support remains valuable for institutional matters, while the student team should take ownership of the day-to-day execution and follow-ups.
