Broken to new

Broken to new

This knife was or did have 2 more inches to the blade/overall length. While I was doing the finish grinding, I noticed a crack that was on both sides of the bevels. I knew it was worthless attempt to try to grind out the crack, so I popped it against my vice and a huge dark spot was exposed(fuck!). I knew it wasn’t trash can worth so I drew a point and re-profiled the blade. I like the outcome and it’s sold after describing this build to a buddy. I sent him a pic and “I’ll buy it off you, right now!” I still have some sanding to do but from broken to new in just minutes!

Stabbie-stab

Though I like the look of these types of knives, making them is a pain. My “OCD,” takes over due to symmetry, lining up everything, etc. my prep for knives is a process but when a build has to be balanced and symmetrical, it takes even longer and then I stress out during the grinding and profiling. But this is on is done and it’s off to the next doubles edged blade…sigh. Does anyone know of a knife design app or program that’s inexpensive? For blades like this, I rarely forged them out; stock removal is my preferred method for smaller and doubled edged. I just need something to help with the symmetry of these designs!

1st billets: 5150 x 15n20, 6”x 2.75”, 15 layer starting count. No sure how many layers I’ll end up but we’ll see! 2nd billet: 1084 x 15n20, 3” x 1” 17 layer starting count! The first billet is for a Kukuri in remembrance of my old USMC unit that was disbanded last year. A USMC Bro ordered it and wants our logo etched into some part of the build. The 2nd billet is just to have on hand. Both will be a random pattern Damascus! Process starts next week!
