A guy got fired today

A couple months ago, I was at a company event. It was in public and drinking was involved. Near the end of the event, one of the guys made a "joke" about how "marital rape doesn't exist" and that he "rapes [his] wife every day". Half the group was women and some of us were wearing company merch, with members of the public within earshot.

This guy is a certified rage baiter and has made jokes in the past about how he thinks it's funny to piss off his wife. At another company event, he told a female employee that he told his wife "even if she showed up at our door naked, you wouldn't have anything to worry about"???

This guy is also a big time dog fucker. He calls in all the time and fucks around when he doesn't show up. Despite all this, he asked for more responsibility. They put him in charge of an important task and he fumbled it to my detriment. I had to take over for him and figure out the mess he left and we missed a deadline because of it.

I was complaining to the PM about it and mentioned the comment he made. Within 10 minutes, the owner of the company called me to tell me the guy would be let go. He was horrified that some guys actually talk like that and didn't want anyone like that associated with his company.

I feel bad for the guy's family, but I'm really grateful that my company cares enough to do something about shit like this. I didn't expect them to fire him when I brought it up, but they took it really seriously and I'm proud that there's one less shithead on site.

I know I'm very lucky to have this support and that a lot of y'all don't have that luxury, but I think we should all keep fighting for this standard because it really is the bare minimum. It still deserves to be celebrated, but it's sad that it needs to happen at all. These dudes shouldn't feel comfortable enough to spew horrible shit without consequence.

Should I bring home another cat?

Hey y'all,

I am working out of town and have the opportunity to adopt a beautiful black DLH who looks just like my girl at home. I've been thinking about getting another cat for a few months and I think I'm ready. My ex and I broke up six months ago, so my cat lost a sister and she misses having a friend.

My girl is 6 years old and quite timid. She loved to play with her sister, but was good at telling her when she was done. She's trained to sit on command when I feed her and listens well. Her only issues are that she's been restless and scratching my couch since we moved. She's been very playful though, especially at night when I can't run around with her. She is currently staying at my mom's house while I'm away, which we have done before and she likes.

I've only met the new cat once. She is 7 years old, overweight and previously abused. She's at a wildlife rehab centre and the woman who runs it said she didn't do well in the main house with her 13 other cats. She said she doesn't normally like being pet much, but when I approached her she warmed up immediately, was purring and showed me her belly. She did bite me after I pet her for a couple minutes, but warmed up again afterwards.

I would like an outsider's opinion on whether or not this is a good idea. We live in a small apartment, but I have the space for another litter box and cat tree. I've also been planning on installing wall shelves. I am able to use my bedroom as an isolation space for the new cat and can afford to get everything I need and a vet checkup.

If I bring the new cat home, it will be an 18 hour drive straight there. How do I make this comfortable for the new cat? What should I put in the crate with her? What about eating and going to the bathroom? Should I get some kind of outdoor enclosure/tent for her for rest stops?

When I get home, should I get the new cat set up in the bedroom and then bring my current cat home? Or should I have my mom bring my current cat home first? I haven't been home in two weeks, so I want to minimize freaking my current cat out.

Thanks in advance!

Resources for learning industrial-related concepts?

Hey guys,

I recently got my construction electrician ticket and have decided to go for my industrial ticket. Problem is, I was dogshit at electronics and motor control in school. I'm looking for some resources (YouTube, etc) to learn these concepts so I can get ahead of it before I go back to school for my industrial ticket. If anyone has any recommendations, I'd much appreciate it!

Jobs in rural towns or that allow for travel?

Hey guys,

I recently got my ticket and have been working at a job that I love and where I make good money. Problem is, I live in a densely populated area and won't be able to have the life I want to live here. My dream is to buy an acre and get some chickens and rabbits, but I can't do that in the city.

So, I've been wondering lately what kind of job I'd have to have to live in a smaller town or that requires travel. I currently work in commercial renovations and service and I love it, but I know that there wouldn't be nearly as much work and the pay wouldn't be nearly as high if I were to move away.

Does anyone have any recommendations for jobs in the Caribou region of BC, Canada? I know the lumber industry is big out there, but I'm sure there is more than that and residential. Thanks in advance!

I want to save $100,000 in 5 years

Hello everyone!

I recently paid off my car (30k in 18 months!) and am now thinking about my long term plan.

I'd like to buy a house, so I'm aiming to save $100,000 in the next 5 years for a down payment/closing costs.

$100,000 ÷ (5x12) = $1,666/month.

Assuming I can put aside that much money, where should I put it to maximize my savings?

I have FHSA, TFSA and RRSP investment accounts.

If I max out my FHSA ($666), where should I put the other $1000? In my TFSA?

Thanks in advance for any advice!
