My daughter and wife brought home a class pet

Hi. Sorry if this is a naive question, but I’m in a bind while packing for a trip tomorrow. A large Gecko was foisted upon me for the summer because my daughter’s science class needed hosts for all of their critters. Unbeknownst to me, we now have a huge gecko in a big terrarium. I had no idea they get this big btw, he’s like the size of one of those skinny redbull cans. When we got him he had about six crickets inside with him. Over three days he only ate two I think. We are going on a trip for 5 days and have other classmates apparently coming to check on him while we are gone. My wife said the teacher told her to get about a dozen live crickets for the time we are gone, dust them with some powder, and put them in the terrarium. I did that tonight around 6pm and gave him some fresh water.

I think he’s eaten all of them in the last two hours. Or maybe they are just hiding really well. Is this a problem? I have no experience with lizards, other than pet sitting an iguana the week that OJ Simpson had his bronco chase. Also, do the crickets need food? I’d hate for them to die while starving. Thanks.
