What do you think of my personal brand as a freelance designer?
I’m a graphic designer building my freelance practice, and I’d love some honest feedback on the personal brand I created for myself.
My work is especially focused on illustration, lettering and typography, so I wanted my identity to reflect that side of my practice: playful, warm, expressive and creative, rather than overly corporate.
The visual identity is built around a character based on me. The shape of the hair follows the silhouette of my own calligraphic signature, and I tried to make it as close as possible to how it actually looks in real life (I have waves/curly hair).
The shape also plays with the idea of a cloud (the background clouds are the logo silhouette too!), and has a speech-bubble-like ending. It represents both thought and dialogue — the relationship between the world of ideas and what comes out of them.
I’d especially love to know:
— Does this feel like the identity of a designer?
— Does it communicate illustration, lettering and typography?
— Does the playful style feel intentional and distinctive, or too childish?
— Does the concept behind the character come through visually?
— If you were looking to hire a freelance designer, would this identity make you curious about my work?
I’m very open to honest criticism. I’d love to know what works, what doesn’t, and what you would refine. 👀
