Is this cool or not so cool? I made this into a drone that is low Bb and D when played and when played faster it kinda turns into what I would call an overtone flute but I kinda like it like this and of course the bird whistle by BlueBearFlutes
I have made native flutes before even walking stick drones but out of bamboo I want one made of whitewood and think I could do it if I take my time on the whittling maybe even add some groovy curves going up and down the body?
I handcraft each whistle by hand
Does anyone else burn the track area flat when making flutes? Lmk what you think.
I wanted to share a handmade Mockingbird Whistle Necklace I've been making. I'm a Lumbee artisan from North Carolina and enjoy creating pieces inspired by the natural world around me.
The whistle is designed to imitate a mockingbird-style call and is worn on a hand-braided leather necklace. Each one is individually handcrafted, so no two are exactly alike.
I've always admired mockingbirds for their incredible ability to mimic other birds and sounds, which inspired me to create these wearable whistles.
Here's a short video demonstrating the sound and showing some of the craftsmanship involved.
Do any of you have mockingbirds around your area? What's the most interesting sound you've heard one imitate?
(If anyone is interested in the craftsmanship process, I'd be happy to answer questions.)
