Sorry for the bad photo, but this is Comet. Recently both of his eyes became cloudy, his colours are dulled, and his face/jaw looks rough. He’s currently in a 4 gallon tank, with temp of about 75°F. I did a water change about 3 days ago. Does he look sick? Or is this a sign of age?

He was in a 10 gallon tank a few weeks ago, but I had to move him into the smaller back-up tank due to an emergency with my community 20 gal fish tank crashing. I won’t be able to get him back into the 10 gallon until September, at the earliest.

The 4 gallon tank has a filter, heater, and is partially planted. He is fed Aquean betta pellets daily, and is still eating his food okay.

Any advice or help is appreciated!

Hi! Recently I was given a 10 gallon tank for free, with the catch that it came with a pleco. I assumed the pleco would be a smaller species, and would fit fine in my 20 gallon, but when I got there, he was a large common pleco (~10”). I felt awful that he was being kept in a 10 gallon, so I decided to take him, as the owners said no one else would, and I worried he’d end up in the local pond ecosystem. (I am rather impulsive when it comes to trying to help out animals).

The problem, however, is that I live in a small apartment, and the largest tank I own is the 20 gallon. There is no way I can get a 100 gallon (or larger) into my residence. After doing more research, I have also realized there are no nearby smaller, privately owned ponds that will take plecos either. I’m not sure what to do, but I know I cannot keep him in the 10 gallon that he originally grew up in.

Can he live temporarily in a 40-50 gallon tank, until I move into a larger space? (Roughly 2 yrs)
I’m sure I can find (and fit) a 40-50 ish gallon tank into my space, just not anything larger.

TLDR, I now am in possession of a big pleco, and have no idea what to do with him. Anyone have any advice?

Is my fish sick/aging?
