Ralsei and *YOU*

First time writing a theorem because I do not yet see it be brought up elsewhere (or maybe I'm just being captain obvious idk don't bully me)

In Chapter 5 at the castle, there are 2 paths, in both of which Susie walks away and Kris is left with Ralsei. One of the few patterns that actually persists through every damn chapter.

Typically the game wants us to just close our eyes and look at what Susie is doing. (you can also insist to ralsei you don't want to since chapter 2 and up, which typically just leads to a skip, except chapter 3 where you get to have a fun little interaction about the goats face)

However this time, Ralsei pushes us both times specifically NOT to do that. Framing it as giving Susie privacy, which is quite random because he sure didn't care about that all the other times.

So my point here is, why does Ralsei want Kris to stay with him?

I believe it is because he wants to communicate, or even test You, the soul, the player, which the game very much considers its own entity, and Ralsei is already heavily hinted to know about.

On the path to the right of the castle, after dealing with Green and Orange, Susie will walk off with Green and you are prompted with the expected option of closing your eyes to see Susie.

But if you choose that option, Ralsei will suggest you let her be for 'privacy', for some reason blushing, and suddenly walking off for "some flowers"

You're then given the choice to look at what Ralsei is doing, or you can again ignore it. But even after you ignore what the game is suggesting and just pick "Chill", you're given ANOTHER chance to see what Ralsei is doing. That's quite insistent.

And when you check on Ralsei, the first thing you see is him praying/begging on the floor facing forward, asking "Please let it change, Please let everything be all right, Have mercy on them, Have mercy on Susie"

After a conversation with Flowery about defying fate , Flowery gives him drink vouchers. We are specifically told Ralsei likes the blue and pink one. Flowery tells him not to worry about Kris.

Immediately after, Ralsei gives us a prompt between the blue and pink vouchers, and green-yellow ones. Since You just heard he likes the damn blue-pink ones, you can pick the green-yellow and he specifically says (in his mind) "Kris has me in mind too, Flowery. I know it."

All's this to say, the only significance I can see here is a test of how much You care. It's a pretty simple one, but the game really wants us to see it. The line about Kris having him in mind makes little sense for Kris as Kris, because they're just getting a mite checkup with Susie the whole time. You are the subject here.

On the path to the left of the castle, after dealing with Blue and Yellow, You're once again left with Ralsei. Once again, you are prompted to see what Susie is doing. If you pick that, Ralsei much more clearly says he just doesn't want you to do that, and are prompted to hang out with him instead.

This scene is much more focused on Kris of course, Ralsei lectures them about how the evil fountain creation is evil but he's sure Kris got it in the bag or whatever.

Afterwards, heavily blushing, he says no matter what, if a happy ending does exist somehow, it's with Kris. We can answer our happy ending is with him too.

Whatever Ralsei's reaction to that might be is interrupted, but it raises to me a question.

Ralsei knows You exist. He knows you're making the choices. Yet he always heavily appreciates our reciprocation. In pretty much any scene (the acid tunnel of love, saying his face is cute, Ralsei or bust, etc.) it's always him on purpose talking with you present and giving answers. He could just send you to Susie and talk to Kris in private if he wanted to, instead he suggests you stay. The only time you're forced to go away no matter the choice is in the Chapter 1 cell scene.

So why is he doing all this lovely dovely stuff with us, hoping You follow him during these moments?

idk bruh, I was hoping to find discussion about this already but i didn't so i took to hopefully make discourse around it lmao

It might be because we, Us, You, might make a big decisive choice later on! Cause the game is like telling you "haha your choices don't matter" through the game, but the ending maybe would subvert that by being a very decisive moment, because... themes and such

and Ralsei wants to urge us by begging or forging a bond of some sorts, so that we Do Something™ later on

Unrelated, but I found it interesting Susie tells us Ralsei is way more talkative when we're not around. I can sort of attribute that to our presence, either because he finds our input annoying or scary. like when you're chasing Flowery and Susie at the beginning of the dark world, if you do a lap around the room he will comment on it. Obviously the ever-curious player will start doing it again and again because of that, and Ralsei recognizes what we're doing, eventually saying something like "maybe I shouldn't make comments" (can't find screenshots of this online but it happened bro trust me)
