Customizing my 2018 Scout – Can I do a chopped rear fender + passenger seat with OEM bags?
Hey everyone,
I’m looking to change up the look of my 2018 Indian Scout and could use some advice from anyone who has tackled a similar build.
Right now, I'm running the stock rear fender with the OEM leather saddlebags and a passenger pillion/backrest. I'm installing a Memphis Shades Rio Grande sport shield tomorrow, and later this year, I'm swapping the chrome exhaust for a friend's OEM black setup paired with a set of matte black Vance & Hines Twin Slash 3" slip-ons. I also already purchased a black OEM license plate relocation kit, but unfortunately, I can't use it with my current configuration.
I have two specific goals I’m trying to achieve, but I'm hitting a few roadblocks with compatibility:
- The Fender: I absolutely love the chopped look of the Indian Scout Bobber rear fender. Is there a reliable aftermarket option (or a specific modification path) that gives me that short, aggressive bobber look while still allowing me to structurally support and keep my passenger seat?
- License Plate Relocation: I want to clean up the rear end by moving the license plate to a side-mount kit. However, I want to keep using my OEM saddlebags. Has anyone found a side-mount bracket that safely clears the OEM bags without rubbing or being completely hidden?
- If you've done something similar, what specific kits, brackets, or custom routes did you go with? Photos of your setups would be massively appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
