Not my photo! I noticed it states “no box sets.”

Not my photo! I noticed it states “no box sets.”

This is an image from Facebook, the town is far away and I won’t be joining. However, I was reading and noticed it states “No box sets please.” There was a discussion on this previously.

I made some good progress this week :)

Has anyone played puzzle chess?

Cobble Hill recently released a puzzle chess line. I wasn’t sure what it was. I read you place puzzle pieces in a race against your opponent using a chess timer, an adaptation of sorts on speed puzzling. Has anyone played? Is it fun?

Someone at Puzzles Canada made me very happy today :)

Also, they had a huge new release. It was really hard to use willpower and not order ALL THE PUZZLES. You’ve been warned :)

Technically a rebuild, I didn’t photograph it the first time. Loved this Puzzle Moment :)

My kiddo and I build this one together. We wanted to try it out and leave it for our house sitter to have if they liked it.

I think this is the perfect puzzle line for gifting :) It includes a folded puzzle tray, a poster with a map of the pieces and a plastic clip (to hold the map to the board I believe).

The puzzle backs aren’t blue! The pieces appear thicker too. I included pictures comparing the piece size to a regular and an XXL piece from a children’s puzzle.

Overall, it exceeded my expectations :)

Both micros are by Magnolia, two different images and complaints.

In the first puzzle the pieces are peeling apart in layers. Very easily too. It seems that as I pick up pieces they are being damaged in my hands with normal use. I’m going to set this puzzle in the recycling, abandon it.

The second puzzle of the mermaid is from last year. It had bent knobs with irregular cuts. I didn’t build this puzzle, I didn’t love the image upon closer inspection anyways, so I wasn’t very bothered. It was recycled.

I will probably avoid Magnolia micros. They’re not my favourite size piece to build in puzzles, I prefer regular sized pieces and the quality issues make them too much of a loss for me.

I opened up one of the Magnolia 4 x 260 boxes and took some pictures to share the contents with ya’ll. I had time to play with a few pieces and put them together. They appear to be the same quality that I’ve come to expect from Magnolia upon first impression.

There might be slight differences. I’m noticing that the pieces might be slightly looser fitting, still a tight fit, and the back of the pieces feel a bit different. Smoother than other puzzles I’ve built by Magnolia. That could be consistent with a new die though. When I have more time, I will do a full comparison.

The ziploc bags have a tight closure, and I love that they are labelled with the puzzle’s name. Easy for grab and go. The back of the puzzle box gives credit to the artist as we’ve come to expect from this brand.

Overall, I’m finding these new bumper packs excellent value!

My progress this week on The Six Portals by Rose Khan, Ravensburger 7k. I was pretty busy the last week, and I’m taking next week off, but I’m enjoying how the second half is starting to come together :)

I’ve been excited about this new line since it was announced and have been eagerly awaiting my pre-order. The boxes are the same size as standard Magnolia boxes, and at first glance the pieces look like the excellent quality I’ve come to expect from Magnolia. Squee! It’s been a fun mail week :)

Week 3 has been my favourite week so far working on The Six Portals by Rose Khan (7k).

The first week was full of excitement. I had waited a long time to receive my copy and couldn’t wait to dig in. Week 2 I was trying to find my pace and feeling some nerves. Week 3 I found my groove and really settled in. Also, completing the first half was a pretty nice sense of accomplishment.

I was always more of a long distance runner than a sprinter. Puzzling feels a little like this to me. The first half I was familiarizing myself with the trail, the second half feels more comfortable. I know how many trays to anticipate using for sorting side B, and I have a more accurate understanding of how to sort this many pieces- 3500.

Which brings me to my next thought. I (personally) will have a hard time stating my largest completed puzzle is 7k after I complete this. I feel as though it’s 2 x 3500. Unless, of course, I mix bags the next time I complete it. I probably won’t, but, I have options.

Side B of Six Portals is my favourite. I love all the details I’m catching in the pieces like the dream catchers. This art on this puzzle has been incredibly fun to explore :)
