The thing that gets me angry is that the Department of Energy has enticed our state legislators with rebranding this whole initiative as Nuclear Innovation Campuses (dump sites) with promises of $50 Billion in capital investments and millions more for state revenues and additional jobs. DOE has also called Oklahoma a finalist in this grand dios plan like, O boy! We Oklahomans are chosen to bury nuclear waste in our back yard! What about the environmental impacts of nuclear waste??
Supposedly, the waste will be buried very deep in tiny drill holes from past oil exploration & fracting, but once u drop these canisters into these holes, you cannot later retrieve them back! If they prove detrimental to the environment, there is nothing that can be done? They have assured us that these canisters are safe & will be far below the water table, but there are concerns that these cannisters can degrade & even rupture over time from earth quakes or future fracting?
Any thoughts from the people of Oklahoma about this issue??
