Shadowborn Manor Oddities, Ravenloft: the Horrors Within
So, I was excited to see that we were getting a new map for Shadowborn Manor in the new Ravenloft book. I have a book I transcribe maps onto, in case I don’t want to lug a bigger book around for my dry erase map. As I went to start on Shadowborn Manor I noticed a lot of weird choices and mistakes.
The grid for the interior manor is misaligned compared to the exterior. I checked with a ruler in a couple of the photos, the manor is off on the X axis, but not the Y.
The Room spacings are wonky. It does not feel like the grid was taken into consideration when building this manor.
The upstairs has an odd blue room I have no clue of what the purpose would be.
Lady Shadowborn/Ebonbane had modern plumbing installed? Not even chamberpots, each bedroom has an on suite bathroom with a porcelain throne, sink, and bath. What era is this supposed to be in??? You’ve got modern bathrooms while they’ve also got a well outside?
Speaking of the well, at the dungeon level there is a spiral stair wrapping around that well it seems. But there’s no indication of where it goes. To the bottom of the well? To another lower dungeon floor? Upwards even? No clue.
It looks like the map was done by a Pedro Cardoso/his studio. This map is such an oddity, not nearly as useable as all the other great maps in this book. It’s a real shame since I’ve been wanting another Shadowborn Manor map, and this one will need tweeking to make work.
