Success after vaginal surgery?

Have any of you had success after vaginal surgery? I feel like a lot of my pain is due to scar tissue and trauma from the surgery and recovery. It makes it really hard to trust that I am safe to relax. I feel like I'm fighting this protective urge, and that protective reflex is necessary.

I've made a lot of progress, but it's still super hard. I mean, I had a fistula. I was incontinent for most of a year and I was only able to limit that by tightening everything. I felt like my body could fall apart even after the surgery to fix it. It set me back with dilating really far because I was afraid of reopening the fistula.

Two doctors told me it couldn't be fixed and my vagina would have to be removed and recreated with another surgery. They were wrong, but it stuck with me. I had two panic attacks on the toilet when the fistula seemed to get worse.

I don't know how to recover from this. I have been in PTb for nearly three years. I've had therapy reached diminishing returns.

And in some ways I feel so close! Every day is a little better, but too slow and there are major things I haven't mastered yet.

I'm not sure what I'm looking for exactly, but maybe some advice from people with similar experiences, and validation. And reassurance that it will be okay.

Big step today

Today I figured out how to relax several more of my pelvic floor muscles, enough to put something inside me without pain. I'm really proud of myself and glad that I have stuck with physical therapy for so long. I know I still have a lot of work to do, but it feels possible in a way it hasn't before.
