A polygamy standpoint I have not heard before.

Hi everybody! Long time lurker first time poster. I work at a very Mormon company. For example, we pray before every management meeting. I have met exactly 2 coworkers in my tenure here who I have confirmed are not Mormon. My department knows I’m an exmo as I do not try to hide it.

During an idle conversation with another coworker, he brought up to me (figuring I could be a neutral third-party) that a friend of his was a guest on the Still Mormon podcast. This person states that Joseph Smith was not a polygamist, and they have a 2 hour episode debating this topic. I believe it was mentioned to me that this podcast guest is the sibling of a general authority. I haven’t ever actually heard that opinion and told this coworker that, who agreed with me. As far as I could tell (and has been documented) Joseph Smith was a polygamist and the argument is essentially whether it was justified and necessary or immoral and a means to control and live out his perversions without facing scrutiny from his followers.

Now I may have severely watered that down, but again it remains that the two sides agree that he was a polygamist. I’ve not heard this random argument of “well no he wasn’t.” I also haven’t listened to the podcast. Is this some new rationalization? As far as I can tell it’s a flat out denial of what is documented both in and out of scripture.
