Fieldwork Hours NYC

Looking for connections and leads to fulfill fieldwork hours over the summer in NYC schools (Social Studies 7-12). Does anybody know who I can reach out to? I have also asked for a contact list from my university. I would like to get the bulk of these done in the Summer before the fall, so I don't have to take time off from work.

Dream Country Thread?

Wasn't sure if the mods were gonna make a thread for sharing our dream countries so I guess put yours here if you're interested? Sorry if y'all wanted this to be on the episode megathread.

Explanation:

On Military and Diplomacy: A competent (and existent...Aidan) military combined with an emphasis on diplomacy will be enough to defend this nation in my opinion.

On Education, Science and Democracy: I planned this society around high education being the driving force in creating a pseudo-meritocracy system. Those wishing to run for public office will be required to study law in publicly funded, competitive schools that will have professors who worked in government and maintained an approval rating over 45%. A test on the nation's laws will be used to qualify those wishing to run for public office. A strong emphasis on science along with my strong emphasis on education will help ensure that those being educated will not only have the knowledge, but the resources needed to use that knowledge

Vanity & Culture: Vanity in my nation will not be delivered through self-glazing elected officials, but with pride in the nation's successes. Culture, while important, is not a priority for my nation and will be created by the people, not politicians.

On Welfare and Healthcare: Aidan and Atrioc brought up a great point with China. They were able to rise the population out of poverty without a strong emphasis on welfare. While having it present is important, it is not a high priority in my nation that is trying to create informed citizens and a stable consistent system. Healthcare, in my opinion, is greatly important and thanks to advancements in science will improve at exponential rates, meaning less government emphasis will be needed for it.

On Business Subsidies: Business subsidies will be used exclusively for small business in order to create healthy competition with larger corporations. Larger corporations will be forced to offer competitive wages to attract better employees and will be forced to adopt pro-consumer policy to compete with small business

On Infrastructure and Housing: Ample housing emphasis and ok infrastructure, along with the presence of a social safety net will hopefully decrease crime among the (inevitably) impoverished.

Curious to hear your guys' thoughts on mine and see read yours!

Prospective educator here! I’m perusing my social studies certification in NYS and while I’m confident in my ability to provide engaging lessons, I’m for whatever reason REALLY nervous for the CST. I was never a great test taker back in my high school days because of sheer mental blocks and basically all of my college exams and projects up to this point have been open note. Does anybody have any CST study resources that I should be looking into? Is the CST even worth worrying about?

DISCLAIMER: I looked through past threads and couldn't find anything on this so if this is a repeat feel free to call me out on it (and if you could link the appropriate thread it would be greatly appreciated)

Networking is the biggest piece of advice I get from current teachers when I ask them how to get hired, but nobody really talks about the HOW. I hear about hiring events and things like that but I was wondering if there was anything else to that. The only form of networking I've ever been told about is making connections on LinkedIn or asking professionals out to coffee...is that how it works? I've already had meetings with my alma mater's superintendent to get advice on certification pursuit and I have a great relationship already, but I'm not so sure he'd hire me any time soon because the district is pretty high ranked. Maybe knowing the guy is all it takes for me to be a serious candidate? Would love some insight!

Waiting at the Harrison station and buying my ticket and I got charged an 8 dollar surcharge for not buying in advance??? I’ve never fare dodged in my life wtf is this BS? 😡

EDIT: not replying to anymore of Kathy Hochul’s brown nosers who are too lazy to read that I’m a fare paying rule obeying MTA rider. Keep electing politicians who don’t give a damn about you!

Incoming dual-certification student (Drama + Social Studies_ at NYU this fall, and I am moving to the city with my buddies. Need to find a new job to do during the days, and noticed a LOT of the private schools are hiring lower school associate teachers. I have experience working with little ones both in and out of the classroom, and I am going to pursue SBL cert later in my career to work in elementary buildings, potentially. What is the likelihood of my landing one of these positions, and when do they usually start interviewing? I am most attracted to these schools since I want to start planting roots and forming relationships to make interviewing later in my career easier.

Are there any other jobs I should be looking at that could help achieve that same goal?
