Tried posting this a few hours ago, but it was removed, so here goes again: This post represents a hybrid between my earlier Magenta post (which did not include much analysis), and my usual work. It synthesizes the most important evidence regarding this event’s institutional impact at the highest level of the United States government. What emerges is a remarkably compelling picture suggesting that eight months before Pearl Harbor, the United States experienced an analogous kind of “surprise attack” in mid-April 1941.
What’s equally fascinating is that this alleged crash date tracks weirdly well with the theory that Dr. Bush personally drove the atomic fission research beginning in mid-April 1941. That theory was actually first proposed by the Smithsonian historian, Dr. Stanley Goldberg, in his landmark 1992 paper, “Inventing a Climate of Opinion: Vannevar Bush and the Decision to Build the Bomb.” In other words, the available evidence corroborates the claim in General Twining’s Project “White Hot” report of September 1947, ie, that the USG exploited the April 1941 recovery for the Manhattan Project. Here are the receipts, which reconstruct the institutional history of everything that went down after the Cape Girardeau/Chaffee, MO, crash retrieval on 4-12-1941. This represents an incredibly important (albeit neglected) part of our history.
