How can I understand Islam as a catholic?
I'm a raised catholic but recently I have been questioning my faith. I am very disillusioned by the corruption in catholic church and some of the messages being promoted within the community.
My partner is muslim and I am very inspired by his faith and I want to learn more. I am hoping that by exploring Islam and the teachings of the Quran that maybe it would help me connect and understand my faith better.
I refuse to deny the cruxificion of Jesus and I do firmly believe that Jesus was both fully man & fully God. I understand that contradicts the muslim faith, as such I do not see myself as a potential convert, but I personally acknowledge Muhammad as a prophet and an inspiration.
Here are my general questions
About islam
Are there any specific readings you'd recommend?
how should I approach reading the Quran?
Is there anything I should keep in mind while I learn more about islam?
About jesus:
what role does Jesus play in islam (specifically what role does he play in your personal beliefs)
are there any readings that you believe might inspire me or could offer me a new perspective on Jesus (or christianity/any christian figures)?
About Muhammad:
What does Muhammad mean to you?
what qualities of Muhammad do you most admire?
What stories from his life have shaped your faith?
What aspects of his character should could I (or any non-Muslims) understand better?
