Depressed

Hi All, I’m 9 weeks post-op from L4/5 fusion and I’m sure a lot of you can relate to feeling depressed a bit or a lot, you know my friends and family work during the day, I’m still dealing with quite a bit of pain so being lonely and in pain is a unsettling combo. I realize what I need to do is to get out for walks more, do things that can keep me positive mentally and physically and I am sure this feeling with pass but maybe just keep this in mind for the pre-ops to make sure you prepare yourself with tools for whatever activity that makes and keeps you happy when you are in recovery. I’m wishing all of us in recovery more positive days than negative and by next year we may be living our best lives.

After surgery L4/L5

LUMBAR 4/5 DECOMPRESSION AND INSTRUMENTED FUSION WITH MIDLINE SPARING LAMINOPLAST
Is what got done and wow I’m in so much pain! I never thought it was going to be so intense. The 2 wheeled walker has been a blessing and the higher toilet seat and grabber are a must, keep your pills on your bed side table and have lots of pillows different sizes, getting comfortable is hard. I feel my feet more, I never realized they were that numb, I can walk to the kitchen and make a quick meal, walking or standing too long hurts but I just had surgery a day ago, it was a overnight stay at the hospital, my throat hurt a bit and coughing up phlegm from the breathing tube they used but I guess that’s normal, not looking forward to my first bowel movement 😖 they put me on dilaudid and gabapentin, it helps but not as much as I expected. It will all be worth it in the end I am sure. Just thought I would share my experience so far.
