Is not just a disc or a box
Every movie, video game, book, or album I own physically carries a story. I'm not just talking about the story it tells, but my own: where I found it, how long I'd been looking for it, how I managed to get it, who gave it to me, or what point in my life it came into my hands.
With digital media, there's no trace of the journey that led you to that movie. There's no cover worn out from being looked at so many times, no special edition you stumbled upon in a little shop by chance, no memory of the excitement of getting home to experience it for the first time.
Everything is there, just one click away... until the people in charge decide it isn't. Yes, I know nothing lasts forever, but I like looking at a shelf and remembering different chapters of my life without having to open a photo album.
There are movies that take me back to a certain person, video games that remind me of an entire summer, books that bring me back to a very specific moment, and albums that still sound exactly the way they did the day I discovered them.
