Flowerbead

FK's Wondrous Wednesday #12 loot card is here (v2) and we think this one fits well into any treasure trove. Special thanks to Emil Dahlöf for feedback on mechanics and overall text.

As usual, we're releasing these cards to make you aware of app.finderskeepers.se where you can create your own loot cards with custom art for free in your browser (PC/MAC is probably best atm).
We haven't had time to implement "the Linen" card (Dragonbane) design yet, but when we do we'll let you know.

About our workflow: all art is painted by me in photoshop (standardard brushes). As a last touch I add a texture, and tweak the colors and the contrast to better fit the card.

No AI.

As probably most of you are writers here, we, just as you find great pleasure in creating for our players, but since English is not our first language we use spell check and most often spend quite a time looking up medieval-sounding synonyms that are not in our everyday vocabulary.

On my Facebook I’ve posted a video and some stills of how I go about creating the artwork. I should share more, but time is limited (all three of us developing the app have fulltime jobs on the side).

Footnote (1): The whole idea with us posting cards here is to spread the fun that can be had with loot cards in tabletop games and ofc. if more people would find our app helpful, perhaps one day we can spend even more time painting, writing and coding for it, instead of spending our days "in the mines".

(2) Btw. we're also aiming to release the "WW-items" in the app one day, for the users to copy and edit as they wish. That could be a really great feature we think - a start of a user generated content platform.

Until next week, have a good one!

Lockjaw | FK Homebrew #11

I took the liberty to simplify the poison mechanics a bit for this one. Feedback always appreciated.

Rune of Piercing | FK Homebrew #10

The warrior-druids of the Mother were deeply devout people who spent a great deal of time contemplating nature, though they usually did this while hitting things with large sticks.
They possessed a remarkable knack for imbuing small stones with a highly localized form of magical malice, creating handy little trinkets like the Rune of Piercing.
When attached to an ordinary weapon, the rune goes to work with an almost enthusiastic spite, radiating a peculiar aura that treats the concept of "structural integrity" as a personal insult. It doesn't merely cut an opponent; it actively convinces the target's gear to give up on being useful.
It is a highly efficient way to ruin a perfectly good blacksmith's afternoon, which is precisely why the druids were so fond of it.

Credits to Ole Smaaland for this flavored writing.

Note: A GM might consider a used rune stone a part of the weapon, and cannot be removed.

Hetara's last writings (Spells)

This week's FK homebrew is a page out of a grimoire containing spells. It could be used as a hook to make the players try to avenge the now fallen writer/mage.

Writing by Ole Smaaland & Magnus Månsson. Art by Magnus Månsson and Yuliya Krupskaya.
Feedback is as always most welcome.
----------------------------------------------------------------
On the shores of Sailor’s Lament where the archmage Hetara fell. You find her final testament, a jagged fragment of parchment, salvaged from the spray and stained by both the black char of a dying campfire and the dark crimson of her own fading life. It contains her most precious spells, and also the name of her bane.

Should a player character successfully master all three of these magic formulas and use them to deliver justice upon her bane [insert arch-enemy], the lingering spirit of Hetara will manifest one last time. In gratitude, the ghost will bestow the player with The Westwind’s Boon, a permanent blessing that grants the caster a permanent 10% bonus to movement speed and allows them to prepare one extra elemental based spell in addition to their maximum number of spells.

Brynn: The Fire Enchanted Battleaxe

Amongst the rubble, you find it covered in dust. With your thumb sliding along the edge, you reveal a sooty dark, smooth metal wanting to connect.

Feedback and critique are most welcome! (As a new creator I might make mistakes.)

Brynn - the fire enchanted battleaxe

This week's Wondrous item is a magic axe.
Rolling a dragon you can choose to double the fire damage, if rolling a demon one mishap is to take D6 fire damage.

As always, I'm happy to get feedback and critique. (This is version 2, and a bit nerfed)

Goblot Tinkerwinker's Flea Board

"I will not trade this to anyone not embarking on a journey into the wilderness, you hear!"

A man of shorter stature, with a slight greenish tint to his bulbous nose shouts out with a high, raspy voice.

A market stall (Goblot Tinkerwinker’s) has the standard adventurer’s gear on display, but the salesman is holding this weird wooden thing up in front of a grim-looking could-be customer, waving it back and forth in his face, almost.

"This is not for you! No, you can't have it. This is for real wilderness adventurers, heading into the wilderness!

You over there! (Goblot points at the partyYou look like hardy people bound to set out for real adventures! You should have this, no one else!

No more cooking clothes, scrubbing your butt, or putting wormwood in your shoes. This is easy! No no, not for gold! You get the Flea Board for 10 silvers only, this is a beauty and it's comfortable! As you see it’s been used, and usage is good! Good things work when reused!

I promise you will sleep like babies out there in the bushes with this close at hand, no matter what bugs you have crawling around in your bedrolls!

This baby catch’em all!
In these, you see?! Goblot sticks a stubby finger into one of the holes.

What do you say?!
Goblot’s unwavering smile feels genuine. (He believes his own lies.)

______________________________________________________________________________________________

Mechanics: The Flea Board’s Curse
Item, Uncommon (Cursed)

First Night (The Illusion)
With the board close, everyone sleeps exceptionally well and gains 1 temporary hit point for the day.
(As a DM, you smile and take notes.)

Second Night (Reality)
It seems like the fleas caught in the trap have found their way out!
Everyone who slept near the board (5-foot radius) has been infected with fleas.

Roll a d6 per character:
1–2: Disadvantage on all ability checks outside of combat for 24 hours.
3–5: It’s itching all the time! (you are starting to develop scabies)
6: You’re that person now, a social pariah. Disadvantage on all Charisma (Persuasion, Deception, and Performance) checks, and animals refuse to interact with you (no mounts, no animal companions, etc.) until cured.

If they sleep with the board for 3+ nights:
You’re now all visibly infected and avoided by other groups of humanoids and even animals. Disadvantage on all Charisma checks for social interactions with civilized people.

Cure
"Cook your clothes, scrub your butt, and put wormwood in your shoes. Easy!"

/END

Final Note:

From the upcoming item pack, Odds & Ends: We’ve picked this totally thrilling, absolutely essential, never-before-seen(?) mundane item! Because who hasn’t spent hours roleplaying around a flea board?

As always with our Wondrous Wednesday items, feel free to critique and feedback (this is my (Magnus Månsson) first D&D 5e item, so go easy on me, plz). Much appreciated!

Been playing around with a Dragonbane card design this week. So I decided to use it for this week's magic item. Good / Bad?
We hope to be able to implement a Db card in the app soon.
Cheers!
