My first magic cat

Morgue: https://crawl.akrasiac.org/rawdata/MackTheFife/morgue-MackTheFife-20260816-152947.txt

I've tried many FeSu's (and Cj's) but never ascended one. My best Fe scores were all berserkers, including my only Fe win.

This time I decided to try shapeshifting as well as spells. The game went well for me throughout. I found the amulet of wildshape and a bunch of talismans, and rush shapeshifting alongside summoning. And I got all the summoning spells I could want.

Endgame: flying and hive form. For any fight, Dragon's Call and Sphinx Sisters. The dragons spawn near enemies, the Sisters near me. If Dragoncall status runs out, run. In Zot, drop a Malign Gateway as I run.

Then at Zot 4 and 5, start bribing. This was amazing. I bribed the dungeon on the way out, and to my surprise it bribes the pursuers. I had a pet pan lord all the way to the end.

Anyway, I hardly ever win, and this was gratifying.

Inventory in the old days

The new extended inventory makes it easy to keep whatever you like. This reminds me, though, of the old days of DCSS:

  • There was food. There were a dozen different kinds of fruit with various nutritional values; butchered meat, which could spoil and had to be watched; and a few others.
  • There were several types of ammunition. Each could be branded and enchanted.
  • Spellbooks took up inventory space. Of course, you could throw one away once you didn't plan to memorize any more spells from it.
  • Wands didn't combine. You might have three wands of flame, for instance. You would use the one with the fewest charges so it would disappear when it was empty.
  • AND if you tried to make a stash somewhere, monsters could pick up items and use them.

All in 52 total items. I can't remember now how we ever made this work.

If I've forgotten anything or have anything wrong, let me know.

Now that it's been a little while, what about gale centaurs?

Gale centaurs seem really interesting, but I'm not a good player, and I haven't gotten very far with them. I'm eager to see what others have found about them. I'm currently running a hunter, but I'd be glad to hear about all four flavors. What's interesting about playing them? What are they good at? Bad at?
