[Heavy Spoilers] Arachne, Icarus, Sisyphus and Baby Kannan - a successful Greek story on the act of Hubris..
..but an unsuccessful switch of plot in the second half. The initial premise of the movie was quite good and actually grounded. Where a mortal challenges god on the terms of the mortal world and God actually failing to prove the mortal wrong.
But as we approach the interval of the movie, it basically becomes a story from Greek mythology where seeing a god actually fail and throws a hissyfit by using his powers "to make things right". It's the same failings of Greek mythology where when you are younger you are told these mortals got punished because they were "prideful", but once you grow older, you just understand that people will power cannot accept a loss and all these stories just depict that. Pride was never the issue, a powerful being will never accept a loss. That's the story of Karuppu. How is that fair? Then everyone should always be bound to be just, what's with the selective appearance on delivering justice? Was the nameless person's conviction to get his identity back much lesser than the father's?
This is me being very respectful. Had the movie shown the second case also being handled without any power or miracles, the message of the movie would have been stronger. But the ultimate reliance of miracles and fear to push people to do the right thing, just makes the movie a questionable mockery of human excellence against supernatural occurance. No wonder the audience is actually divided on this movie. It's however a much better movie for Suriya after Retro.
