Hi guys, so last Friday I picked up a rescue sunglow girl and immediately took her in to be seen by an exotics team at a vet hospital. She came to me with a severe Respiratory Infection (blowing bubbles, mouth breathing, wheezing), dehydration and stuck shed, rat bites (she was fed live jumbo rats), and corkscrewing. The exotics team and ER doctor put her on 2 antibiotics, one injection-able and the other in nebulizer treatments x2 a day. I was concerned with the corkscrewing but they aren’t because when she does it, she rights herself every time. I wanted to do an IBD test for arenavirus but the doctor said they believe it’s from her severe sickness and that they want to start with this treatment first to get her feeling better and see if the corkscrewing gets better. So far it’s been a week and she’s had 2 infections, she actually does seem a bit better. My issue is, I have 12 other snakes and even with her being treated and confined to a separate room, I still worry about my other babies and IBD, so much it’s driving me nuts. I treat her in her room, I do not use any shared tools between her and the others, I wash my arms and hands and I always change my clothes, just in case. The vet said the test for IBD is inconclusive and they don’t recommend it because it can give a false result depending on how early it is, that only an autopsy would reveal it. what are your thoughts? Anything else I should be doing? This girl is an absolute sweetheart and she’s clearly been through a lot, I just want to love her until her last day, without worrying so much.
Also, she eats great, digestive system is working great, that’s good news at least!
Just wanted to show everyone looking at the newest Dubia enclosure that it’s pretty big, my Suriname boy is loving it. Don’t mind the bare walls, waiting for more plants and a toadranch basking shelf to come in ☺️
Hi all, I recently decided to rescue this girl here. So far all I know is she’s dehydrated, has stuck shed, dents in the scleras of her eyes, popping sounds and bubbles coming from her nose. Aside from all of this, the girl is sweet as can be. I’m already in love with her and I pick her up tomorrow. As soon as I get her, we are taking an almost 2hr trip to an animal hospital who is very experienced with exotics. Please pray we got her in time to make her healthy! Anything you recommend I test for? At this point I’m thinking CBC and Chem panel, IBD PCR, blood smear for body inclusion and a respiratory culture? Anything else?
