Obligatory, this happened last friday night.
I was chilling at home playing PS5 when suddenly a car crashes on my street. I went to open my window to investigate when I see the police chasing a guy on foot heading straight towards me, full sprint.
Me being stupid decided in a split second that I should help the officer's by jumping on the guy running. I live on the first floor so the fall isn't that far, about 3 m (almost 10 feet).
So I jump up on the windowsill and by the time I'm up there I can see in the corner of my eye that he's getting so close that if I'm going to actually catch this guy I need to jump instantly without double checking or even looking straight at him. So I did jump and I did miss..
I was probably less than a second off, as I see him under me while flying in the air, coming down just behind his back and landing heels first, barefoot, right on the curb, instantly breaking both feet.
Two cops came flying past me, grabbing the dude just a few feet behind me. So my jump probably didn't even do anything, except breaking my feet. The cops thought it looked badass and thanked me even tho I think I missed him. Several offices came later to shake my hand.
After a few minutes they drove me to the hospital where an x-ray confirmed that my heel bone was shattered on my right foot and several smaller fractures in my left foot. Wheelchair bound for 6 weeks minimum and possibly needs surgery with a titanium screw.
Later read on the news that this was a car thief that had been on a crazy police chase thru town.
Tl;DR Jumped out of window trying to stop a car thief, missed and hit both of my feet on the curb instantly breaking both. Now I'm wheelchair bound for 6 weeks.
