I have sinned against the Borg.

I'm running a high level campaign using MB. Everyone started at level 1 but that was a few years ago and now they're about to hit 10. Last session they negotiated the creation of a new demi-plane to be their homebase. This involved getting a dozen gods, saints, and cosmic monsters to join their faction and donate power to the undertaking.

They are currently fighting psychic dinosaur gods on the moon. They have an extremely elaborate plan to reboot the universe and remove all the despair and nihilism from the setting. Only three Miseries have occured, because they're fighting Verhu in an oracular 5D chess battle. They get Grogh's priesthood to prophecy a cosmic event (like the creation of a new star) then make it happen themselves.

It feels like I'm running immortal level BECMI or Nobilis using Mork Borg, which is a crazy thing to attempt. All of my campaigns end up like this eventually, so maybe I just can't be trusted with rules light low fantasy games....? Has anyone else taken MB so far off the rails it transends its own genre and vibe?

GLoGifiying the Core Mechanic

d20 roll under is good. I like it a lot. But can (or should) we intensify the amount of GLoG it contains? Maybe pull a few things from the magic system. This is what I came up with thinking along those lines. I had to switch to 2d10 to make some bits of it work better. I don't want to fully commit to an MD-esque dice pool thing. So far I went with a blackjack get-as-close-to-the-target-number-without-going-over mechanic, with a pool of extra dice you can add to the roll. Mainly added [sum], [dice], and a few other variants to regular actions. Couldn't figure out how to incorporate doubles and triples without awkwardness. Haven't tested it much yet, just wanted to know if this looks reasonable or is it all crazy talk?

Attribute Check

Roll 2d10 under the TN (Target Number).
TN = relevant Attribute +/- Modifiers.
Crit: Roll TN exactly (this can include Will dice). Spectacular success!
Fumble: Natural 20 (on the 2d10). Critical failure!
Impediment: Natural “2” (on the 2d10). Success with a cost or complication. If the DM can’t think of something appropriate the character suffers -2 on their next related roll.

Will Dice: Characters have a pool of d4’s equal to half their Will attribute. Any number can be spent on a check. Roll them with the 2d10 and add the results. They are included for the purposes of determining [dice], [sum], [highest], [lowest] and [multiply] as well as Minor, Major, Extreme and Lethal damage.

Adding Will Dice to a roll allows the player to raise their numbers to get a better outcome, but they risk going over the TN and failing if they use too many. The 2d10 can be rolled first, then Will Dice can be rolled one at a time until the player decides to stop, or they can simply choose a number of dice and roll them all at once.

Will Dice refresh at the start of each round.

Fate Points: Spend one to add +4 to the TN of an Attribute check.

Some actions or abilities reference [dice], [sum], [highest], [lowest], or [multiply] to determine the extent of what a successful outcome looks like. Rolling higher (but not over the TN) is always better because these values will increase.

  • [dice] is the number of dice rolled, including Will Dice.
  • [sum] is the value of all die results added together.
  • [highest] is the result of the die that rolled highest.
  • [lowest] is the result of the die that rolled lowest.
  • [multiply] is the result of multiplying the two lowest dice together.

Attack check: Attribute + Attack Bonus - Target’s Defense.

Damage Types: Determined by the weapon or attack form used.

  • Minor: The [lowest] result rolled (on the d10’s or Will Dice). Unarmed attacks, improvised or crappy weapons.
  • Major: The [highest] result rolled. Regular weapons or martial art strikes.
  • Extreme: The [sum] of all dice rolled. Magical or exceptional weapons, most combat spells, and guns.
  • Lethal: [multiply] the two lowest dice together. Killing spells, high explosives, dragon’s breath, and other extremely fatal occurrences.

GF bread

I've eliminated wheat from my diet, but have noticed that even gluten free bread alternatives mess me up. I've tried several brands and they all seem to do this. Is this a common thing? Any work arounds?
